So my dad told me like a month ago that my brother gave him one of his old guitars (might have actually belonged to my other brother that nobody's talked to for years.)....he told me it was a Hondo Flying V. Said it has satanic crap scribbled all over it that he can't get off, "god is dead", etc etc. Asked if I thought I could do anything with it, said I could have it.

So I finally get it today. Not a flying V....and most of the "satanic scribbling" were band names and logos: Fear Factory, D.R.I., Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Buzzov*en, Clay People, etc. I do not have the heart to "restore" this thing by any means, it's got too much family history so to speak lol. I will play indie rock ironically on it at a real blue sky show sometime. Electronics do not work at the time but that's easy enough to sort out with a knob and an output jack.

Awesome. If I ever wanted to use a guitar as a murder weapon, that would be the one.

I cleaned it up a bit...some much needed lemon oil on the fretboard and some cleaner to get the grease off it. Not touching the paint job. After stripping it down, while this thing is a set neck and a solid player (good frets at least), it appears to be pretty cheap in construction. Plywood body, crappy looking/feeling bridge with chrome flaking off, tiny screws that rusted away and stripped. The pickup is ceramic with flat poles and a thin wire. I decided to swap it for the former bridge pickup from my Ovation Tornado, which I at least know I like the sound of. If I don't get along with that in this guitar I might put in a Phat Cat, since I loved the one that was in my Blazer so much. I changed the pickup ring to cream, after having to break the black one apart to get to the cavity (the screws were rusted and stripped).

That thing is literally a work of art, like a relic from a lost age. You can just picture some skinny kid in big stupid headphones rocking away, and kinda looking over his shoulder and glaring into the Polaroid "GET OUTTA MY ROOOOM"

HA!! Awesome. The headstock is beyond ace, the body is like a cross between a BCR Ironbird and a Jackson Rhoads 8)
You GOTTA post pics of you using that in the Indie Rock club, it will be legendary!
