NGD - Squier content

Post by serfx »

so in a ploy to not spend my whole day chilling out on the internet / playing xbox or whatever..
you know looking like this:

Image

so originally i was looking for a new acoustic.. either a Fender Malibu or one of those fancy Tim Armstrong Hellcats
but no shops had a hellcat in stock.. and i tried 5 Malibu's with sadly not enjoying one of them at all..

so instead.. i ended up picking up a Black Squier Jag Bass SS
Image

I haven't had a chance yet to take it apart and look about inside of it, but i played with it for quite sometime and for $169.99 - $25 instant rebate, makes a great backup bass for my Gibson SG & EB4-L (the EB4-L being pretty much a recording only bass.. as i have a tendency to get a little, animated at live shows)

--

Then, while wandering about trying to find a case for the thing (didn't end up getting one) i spotted the Squier Jaguars..
and i like the fiesta red.. i've never owned a fiesta red guitar before..

gut shots
► Show Spoiler
plus, it looks like i'll be modding it anyways..
(a thread will be started when this happens)

things i dislike: the strat jack, the bridge/tail piece, these stacked pots, i just don't understand them.

things i like: everything else

the pickups are all right, certainly what one expects in a $300 guitar, nicer then the ones in the VM Jagstang..
but i'm still not going to keep them in it..
will get either
A\ CP Jaguar pickup in the neck w/ RI WRHB in the bridge
or
B\ TB Jazzmaster neck pickup w/ RI WRHB in the bridge

replacing the bridge/tail piece with a mustang tailpiece and a TOM (as the 9.5 radius doesn't work well with a mustang bridge)
filling in & covering the strat jack (i don't want to refin, so i suspect that it will get covered with a sticker...)

i have some spare jag chrome around.. not sure if i'll put in the rhythm circuit, but i may put in a boost or something for solos...
but i'll get into all of that in a different thread..

so.. enjoy serfx having money and being left alone in a guitar shop for a couple hours on a saturday afternoon.

afterthought: unlike the mim jaguar neck that i had on the CP, this 9.5 radius neck is far less of a baseball bat.. i may actually get along with it.
also: this tort is fucking horrible, i'll be having cooter make me a guard.. just need to order some material that will look good with this fiesta red.)

i'd look into putting an adjust-o-matic on it vs. tune-o-matic so you have the proper fender string spacing the whole way up the neck.

really like those jaguar basses. i want to make one like this:

Hang on, is it just me or does the Squier Jaguar have countersunk jollies for the bridge height adjustment screws to sit in? That's daft.

yes it does, and yes it is.. fucking stupid.. however.. then line up quite nice for where i''ll no longer be needing to drill holes to sit an A-O-M...

Your new black Jaguar will look great along side that bass.

The funny thing about your Squier Jaguar is it actually looks like Fiesta Red. The ones I have seen at Guitar Center have more of a pinkish/Salmon color.

Can you guys tell me if the pickups on the SS Jag are standard size? I am most definitely buying one soon (so I complete the holy quadruple of Mustang, Bronco, Musicmaster, and Jaguar SS Bass) and I would like to get some legit P-Bass and J-bridge sounds.

Can you give us a review of the bass too, I was thinking of getting one and doing what honeyiscool intends to do but would be interested in hearing what you think of it.

Yes, I wanna hear the bass so I can convince my bassist to buy one.

The pickups are standard size. You can switch em out for any J-bass/P-bass pickups.

though here is my first impression / quick review of the squier jaguar ss bass
serfx in an email wrote:So far [i'm] really digging it, I like the combination of the p-bass pickup & the jazz bass pickup
i may upgrade the pickups eventually, but the stock ones are actually quite nice for the price.

opted for the shortscale version mostly because i wanted a backup for my sg bass..
though it has 20 frets, all the other shortscale bass' have 19 so you wouldn't be able to swap the neck with a mustang/bronco or even the other shortscale jag.. so that is a little interesting.
