hums and buzzes when using two amps.

so i've been dabbling around with my old cambridge 30. i like it as it had reverb and tremelo and a nice channel. the dodgy clean channel prevents me from selling it on.
i miss reverb on my dual terror so thought i'd run the vox and the orange together. only problem is hum when you use them together. would this be solved by using a splitter with ground lift or the like?

You need to isolate the audio ground to one of the amps. The best/cheapest way to do that is to use an Ebtech Hum Eliminator, which is basically an isolation transformer.
Put one channel of this in series with ONE of your amps to isolate it.

my thinking is that i can have them both running, but with the vox having reverb and trem. i could have those effects and still have the main sound of the orange.
maybe more width to the sound

At one time I took a second amp for the other guitarist to use as a monitor. If I weren't dragging along a keyboard too, I might have a go.

Um. If you can't hear your own guitar through one amp on stage, then your amp isn't loud enough. Turn it up.
Maybe it's just cuz I use a Twin, but I never have a problem hearing my guitar. It's the vocals I have trouble hearing.

Yeah, sorry I wasn't clear. As we were opposite sides of the venue with no floor monitors he thought it was a good idea for us each to monitor the other guy's guitar. Trouble was it ramped up the overall volume in small venues, so in the end we only did it twice.
Bi-amping could be a good idea for those Wishbone Ash songs we do where there are alternate leads, so I could pretend the rhythm guitarist was doing alternate lines
