Wanted: Photos of your Fender or Squier guitars

Post by James »

I'm considering revamping the Fender Color Chart project and I'm looking for images to use. A forum full of Fender fans seems a good place to ask so I'm appealing to youse guys for some photos. Here's what I'm after -
  • Only photos of stock Fender/Squier colours (or factory resprays). No refinishes even if it is 'period correct'.
  • Uncluttered photos of one guitar are best, rather than group shots. Unless it's a group shot of one type of colour.
  • Please include the year, colour and model number to the best of your knowledge. E.g. '2007 Dakota Red '69 RI Mustang'
  • Only submit an image if you're happy for me to use it as an example of that colour. Include your name if you'd like a credit.
  • They don't have to have been taken in daylight, as long as it's a good representation of the colour.
  • Vintage is fine, yellowed or otherwise.
  • Given the abundance of 3 Tone Sunburst and other common colours I can't promise to use every image, but I'll do what I can.
  • I'd also be interested in anything that seems unusual even if you're not sure what the official colour name is. That also goes for more unusual examples of common colours, like 'target burst' Mustangs.
  • Squier is just as welcome as Fender. Blue and silver sparkle supersonics are definitely needed.
Thanks in advance, shortscale.

Not sure whether you wanted them here or PM'd but anyway, here are a few - nothing that unusual or exciting, so may be completely superfluous.

In the thread is better I think.

Nice pics, cheers. That's exactly the sort of thing I'm after. I forgot about your Duo. Is it a standard 3 Colour Sunburst with a softened edge or do you think it might have been a separate colour?

It was a separate colour, officially known as 'Shaded Sunburst'.
Fender: The Golden Era wrote:...it differed from the standard sunburst...it featured a deep maroon on the outer edge, fading through red into yellow, and as a cost saving exercise, no clear coat was applied over the top...
This pic is probably most representative:

I'll definitely take the Sky Blue strat pic, CopperBurst Tele and the Caramel Metallic Cyclone.

Is the 1995 'American Standard Strat' Surf Green?

I have a question/comment about a color.

The Eric Johnson Rosewood Strat has a color called Tropical Turquoise which looks sort of like Daphne Blue, well some of the versions of Daphne Blue Fender has released over the years anyways.

In all the stock Fender photos it doesn't look that vibrant but then I saw this eBay auction for a Fender FSR '62 in Tropical Turquoise it looks very vibrant. Is this the flash/lighting of the auction or is it more representative of the color. I have not seen the EJ in this color in person and all the auction photos for the EJ Rosewood don't look like the FSR either.

I'm guessing it's probably all down to the way these are photographed and it's the exact same color, but if your putting it on a chart it would be cool to use the one with the most authentic depiction of the color.

It has a trem, I don't know if it's locked or not but I don't think it is.

I would have liked it if the metallics had the matching headstock but a lot of people hate matching headstocks especially on Strats.

My aim is to have a stock image where possible and then one or two others that show it in a more 'natural' sense, which is the aim of this thread.

Here's the stock image (that I'm sure you've seen) for the EJ strat in Tropical Turquoise.

I think that looks a bit pale, and a bit too close to Daphne. The ebay photo looks too vibrant, but then I've not seen one in person either.

I think these few show its 'range' a bit better.

I can't stand Eric Johnson, but the strat in Tropical Turquoise, Medium Palomino Metallic and Lucerne Aqua Firemist are all stunning.
