Shrunken pickguards

I finally got around to ordering a new guard for my 65 Mustang, the Old tortoise one is beautiful but i HATE the combo of tort with Daphne so it's either going in the parts box or onto the Green Duo.

Here's my question (finally), if I stick it into the parts box should I screw it to a piece of wood to prevent further shrinkage or should it be cool? anyone know?

I dunno exactly, but I think shrinking is just a ´normal´ process and cant be stopped when its too old. Maybe it will just crack if you screw it on a board..

cheers

I've heard of people doing this. Sounds like a good idea to me. Couldn't hurt.

Yeah I reckon screwing it to a board's basically te same as having it on a guitar so I think I'll go for that option. Tried the tort on the green guitar. Not pretty.

my old mustang had a very badly warped guard, and the screw-holes had totally stretched where it'd shrunk. therefore, i think it's a waste of time. it'll shrink if it wants to.
