So i own a Hondo Les Paul Copy and recently the bridge pickup somehow got fucked up and now sounds like a single coil. Which is all cool, but want a les paul sound. So i wanna replace it. I was originally thinking of putting in a Wide Range or a JB, does anyone have any thought

Sound Im looking for- Good for ProtoPunk, like the MC5.

WRHB would require routing... i say toss in a jb first and see what you think

JB doesn't give you a Les Paul sound. It gives you a JB sound.

You could get a Custom. It's useful for just about everything.

or a super distortion, they sound really nice in les pauls.. my 72 harmony has what would now be super distortions in it.. and its (IMHO) the best sounding les paul i've ever played.. and i've played a lot.

my favourite humbucker to be honest.

I've grown less enamored with my Super Distortion. I think it's great for a power trio type of situation but in a lead-rhythm situation, I think it's not the most ideal sound in the world due to how saturated it gets. The Custom holds up in all situations, so I prefer that.

Fred was all about Rickenbackers and Crestwoods. It was always more about clang than super-gainy pups.

Yeah, I was going to suggest a hum size P90 but it kind of all contradicts because he still wants the traditional Les Paul sound.

Fred sounded immense, I love mc5 and I feel they influenced glam as well as punk. For me growing up it was mc5 & the stooges that set the grade but these were the pinnacle of the garage punk ideal.

OK, he means hanged. And "well hung" doesn't always apply to the sixe of your tackle, it applies to the maturing of meat as well.

Didn't know that. I'd like to know what Fred was using with Sonic's Rendezvous Band too - the guitar sounds on Sweet Nuthin' are immense.

I love the JB, but i think it's somewhat of as common sound, especially these days when it's being placed in many mid level guitars as stock. The crunch lab may give more of a "neat" and articulate sound. Have you considered bare knuckle?

I had 2 Hondo II Les Paul copies that sounded G R E A T. One even had singlecoils in humbucker cases. The other had a peir of old DiMarzio PAFs in, which I now use on another guitar.
