I'm finally getting back in the Mustang game.

I have been without a short scale 6-stringer for several months now since I sold my two Mustangs and my Jaguar, but I'm making it back in there with a bang. I just ordered this MG73-CO in Olympic White from Ishibashi. About $1k total. Not bad. This is exactly the look I want in a Mustang (olympic white, blue stripes, matching headstock), and getting that is priceless as far as I care. I looked at a lot of vintage listings, too, and never could find this color scheme, and at some point, I said to myself, wait, last I heard, 70s Fenders aren't that highly regarded anyway (probably undeservedly so but still), whereas I know from my experience with six Japanese Fenders that they're gold, so why am I even bothering?

So yeah, here are the pictures of this guitar from Ishibashi:

I'm probably going to install a Lace Light Blue in the bridge and a Lace Silver in the neck.

This will go nicely with my bass:

My bass will probably be jealous, though.

Looks nice, and if it's worth that price to you then that's all that matters. I would love one of the japan only competition mustang basses but I can't convince myself that they're worth that much.

Beautiful. Ishibashi were great when I ordered from them, too.

sweet colour scheme. I prefer the slab bodies, though.

Having had a couple of newer '65s and one older '69, I much preferred the '69 body shape, although the improved quality of the hardware (and overall better worksmanship) in the '65s made for the better guitar. It seems, though, that newer Mustangs all have the new and improved hardware (I see full-sized saddles), so I'm hoping that the '73 nails it in terms of construction and everything.

I must agree with everyone else... that Mustang looks effin' sweet.

Yet I gotta say... 70s Fenders are very underrated. Yes, the late 70s Strats are crap. But we're not here to talk about Strats.

If you ever get a chance to try out a 70s Mustang, I would definitely recommend that you do. They're not 65s, but they don't cost the same either.

That really is quite nice - congratulations. :)

I wish we in the USA had ready access to all the model and color options that they get in Japan... :(
