Hi everyone,

I have the opportunity to buy a late 1966/early 1967 (Serial 177***) Duo Sonic II. It's all original, and in good shape, with a few nicks and scratches. It comes with its original case (including keys!) and, apparently, its original strap.

Really great-looking guitar, and I'm dying to try out the 24" scale (I have a 1964 Musicmaster with the 22.5" scale neck, which I'll post soon). But the price -- $1500 Canadian, so about $1450 US -- seems like it might be a bit high.

Any thoughts?

gorgeous... but about 50% too expensive!

I don't know about the price. If it's 100% original then I guess that could be about right.
Then again, anything over $300 bucks is out of my price range so I couldn't say for sure.
Looks like a beautiful guitar though.

if that was a sweet yellowed daphne blue, i'd say totally worth that price, but i wouldn't pay more than $700 for that color.

yeah, the price is pretty high but it depends how much you want it.

I got a 64 mustang from guitar center this year on a random trip in. 800 bucks. 50 dollars more than a brand new one. the nut was broke. cost me 30 bucks to have a local guy make me one. "a width". so no that's a shit price

That's real money. Nice guitar though. I guess I would either stick with white ones and have a set, or get another color. But I haven't bought any vintage guitars that weren't modified in some way.

Is the price completely non negotiable? Maybe you should try making an offer. I saw a 64 Duo in good shape for $1250 last year at guitar center of all places. There are websites claiming duos have no value as collectables. Maybe you could convince the seller that he'll never get that much for it (cause honestly, he prolly won't).

Unfortunately, he won't be budged! It's okay -- lots of these "uncollectible" guitars out there! (Though not often in that kind of condition...)

it'd be nice if this remains the status quo. they tend to sell for 1/3rd less than a mustang equivalent, yet crucially, they sound better.

wonderful isn't it? here's to hoping. i'll wager musicmasters will remain "undesirable." more for us

they'll always creep up, but i doubt they'll ever be massively expensive. compare vintage jags to jazzmasters, the 24" scale keeps them that bit cheaper. i think buried deep in the subconscious of some players is the idea that a 25.5" scale will make people think they have a slightly larger penis.

6.25% larger, don't ask about them about the bass player.

it's all about the volume of the balls with bass players, i think penis size remains fairly relative.
