NGD 60s 'Selmer' Semi Hollow - Audio Demo!
Already mentioned this in the diary thread but I thought I would make it its own thread as I've been playing it this afternoon and took a few photos...
I have no info about it at all, other than it's got SELMER on the headstock and is very similar to Teiscos and others from the 60s.
It needs some work but is playable. I have been playing it all afternoon in fact. Only the bridge pickup is working at the moment and the strings I put on are some old super slinkys I had that are rubbish. But it works and actually sounds pretty damn good. Tuned to D A D F# A D it stayed in tune great, in standard tuning the G and B strings kept slipping out, probably because of the extra tension. Maybe some new tuners are in order.
I've straightened out the neck a bit, although the truss rod is incredibly stiff, and was going to add a shim to make the angle a bit better but 2 of the neck bolts have been stripped so I can't get it off at the moment. It plays pretty well though as it is. I might leave it...
I have a few ideas in store for it. Firstly it needs a spring for the trem or I might just make it a hardtail with a tailpiece. Maybe a different pickup in the neck.. it will be interesting to see how big the routes are in the top, whether they are the size of the pickup or the whole pickup ring thing... P90?
The volume pot is pretty shit too, it's almost just goes from on to off without any gradient. Tone pot seems better, a huge difference in tones in the bridge pickup.
I am pleasantly surprised with it. How it plays and how the bridge pickup sounds. Also it is so light i can imagine it being the guitar I take around to mates houses etc. Its just a fun thing to have.
Anyway, pics:

I did an audio demo!! Will do a video in the future when it has both pickups working and stuff...
This is the bridge pickup demo. I did snippets of a few different styles and songs, some with the guitar on its own and some with a 'band'. Premier drum kit, BRONCO BASS.
http://bestnetworx.com/uploader/files/1 ... erDemo.mp3
The stuff I played was:
1. An attempt at remembering the solo from Cant Buy Me Love.
2. The Walkmen - Juveniles.
3. Something i made up. That is with the tone knob as low as it goes on the bridge pickup.
4. Deerhunter - Coronado (the solo thing is made up though, the original has a sax solo)
5. Deerhunter - Little Kids
6. Beatles - Something
7. Some made up stuff to finish with.
The pickup is a lot hotter than my 69ri mustang and in my opinion it sounds fucking awesome. I just need some thicker strings, it was hard to play and not bend them out of tune a bit (on the very final chord you can hear it go slightly out when im holding it down).
With a bit of crunch this thing sounds great. Just want the neck PU working now....
Forgot to mention this is all with the TINY TERROR.
