'80s Kay Shortscale Metalstang

Post by UlricvonCatalyst »

Thought I'd share this geetar I found at the weekend with y'all. Looks like the bastard offspring of a Mustang and a pointy-headstocked Superstrat. Definitely from the '80s, judging by the styling. I'm guessing the upside-down machine heads are a later mod.

I didn't put it in the shortscale section as it doesn't really fit the bill, but the scale is indeed 24". Sounds okay, but needs a bit of work to make it a reliable player.

Like it or loathe it...?

Just gave it a good going-over through my Epi Valve Jr. Sounds great. The individual volume pots allow for a nice range of sounds. The action's not the greatest I've ever encountered, but I've definitely played worse.

Poor man's Mustang!

That's a gash piece of shit in the best possible way. I'd play the shit out of that thing.

Ha ha, looks like a bomb pop, love it.

I would set it up for slide, tune it to G, then play naked.
