So, picked up this protip a while back (from a genius called Kittycaster - mad props etc) but didn't actually do it 'til last night, and it's so good I thought I should share...

So, when you string a wraparound bridge with regular ball-end strings, you get a couple of issues: firstly, the string windings tend to sit on the top of the bridge, and can get very uncomfortable and sharp. Secondly, then can push the strings out of alignment a bit. You could cure the hand-jabs by threading the ball-end from the old string down the new string to act as a spacer, but this didn't help with the wonkiness. But never fear, a solution is at hand: if you use Fender Super Bullets, there's no windings to worry about (plus they're made by d'Addario now too, apparently). You can see the the bullet ends, but that doesn't bother me...

Great tip! I'm one of those bar-free whammy users (I pull on the tailpiece a lot), and this makes me think I should start using Bullets on my Mustang, since they would keep me from scraping my hand when I want to wang the tailpiece, also as D'Addario strings, they're probably slightly higher tension than the GHS strings I normally use.

i was amazed when i used super bullets on a strat trem, they really fucking help during string changes.

Nice. Will investigate. Only my old-school spec lightning bar bridge that I haven't installed yet (slated for a Junior currently being painted) has all the common wraparound probs I've always read about like leaning and windings/string-end issues... all my big import cheapo ones I've tried on the first Junior have been issue-free.

The tip is use these strings with no winding, which are now being made by a reputable string manufacturer. But I'd rather you didn't.

any changes to the sound you've noticed compared to wound strings? have you used these on other bridge types as well?

Ah - my last post was confusing things: they're still wound strings, just instead off a ball-end (which is usually a little cylinder type thing) these are bullet shaped. With no windings.

I think what he's trying to say is these strings don't wrap around a ball end and then wind around themselves to secure the end. there is no wound bit, the string merely ends in the bullet. the strings are otherwise wound as a normal string would be.

I THOUGHT I HAD MADE THIS ABUNDANTLY CLEAR AND CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY EVERYONE IS SO CONFUSED.

So are you selling Mastery Wraparounds yet, or...?
