Can anyone explain the difference between a P90 pickup and the P100 pickup?

I don't know for sure but I assume it's to do with the angle of phase of the effected signal/sound wave. As they also do a phase 45

P90s are great, if sometimes too hairy-chested (I love mine, but it's like being teathered to a maniac).
P100s are shit - hum cancelling humbuckers in a P90 shell, missing the point of both P90s and humbuckers. Avoid.

Actually I was just about to post the above. Yeah, the p100's are not p90's. Not really fond of them.

Thanks, guys. This is helpful.
I bought a guitar that had been manufactured with P100s and the seller put P90s in it...I knew P90s would be good but wasn't sure if they'd be better than the original P100s.

Inevitably. He's done you a favour by ditching those P100s.

Tim has this covered. P90 good. P100 bad.

Yeah, I'm lucky on this one, Tim.
He put an original Gibson P90 in the bridge and a hotter Seymour Duncan P90 in the neck...yes, hotter neck . Which suits me cuz I play a lot of traditional Blues and use the neck pup with a fair amount of gain for a thick, dirty lead tone.

Here's a good discussion of P100s vs. P90s:

N.B. The Les Paul
Jr. Special came with P100s, and I believe the BluesHawk did as well.

I'll let you know when I change mine out. I don't think my P100 is that bad. It is also very recent Epiphone production. It might be different than the older Gibson ones that get shit all over on the internet.

I had stock P100s in a Gibson Les Paul Junior, they were fine, but a decent P90 is probably one of the best pickups ever made.

i thought i was doing something wrong. i actually tried to remove the other coil from the p100 to make a busted ass p90, but somehow it didn't work and i put the axl p90 in. WAY BETTER. the p100 was honestly not playable.

My old P90 Ibanez Talman was one of the nicest sounding guitars I've ever owned/played. I seriously miss it now.
The Super Ferrites in my Peavey T-15 come close though.
