lorez reviews

Post by lorez »

I've started writing some reviews of albums recently and thought I would post links to them here. First 2 were on the ech(((o)))es & dust website

Russian Circles "Empros" - http://echoesanddust.com/2011/12/russia ... es-empros/
Shearwater "Animal Joy" - http://echoesanddust.com/2012/01/shearwater-animal-joy/

I will also be adding some to my own tumblr site as well in the future - http://low-rez.tumblr.com/

Just read your Shearwater review, sounds super good. I absolutely gushed all over the Rook album. Truly sublime at times if it lags a little in the last quarter. Home Life is easily my favourite now on that album even if it is a subtle crib off of a Van Morrison choon

Dave I really recommend the Shearwater album a lot, quite a departure by them and you won't be disappointed.

Nice one, Chris- I went to the album launch on Saturday, lovely stuff! Managed to miss Timhulio and his Sailplanes opening though, bah.

Awesome reviews/interviews, super-duperly beautifully written!

I'm not sure if this is cheeky of me to ask, but would you be up for reviewing the tracks I've recorded with NOSE?

Freddy, I sent you a PM.

Here is the latest review I've done. It's for the Andrerw Bird album "Break it yourself" - http://echoesanddust.com/2012/03/andrew ... -yourself/

I've been asked to do some for print magazine/fanzines as well so someone must be liking these :)

I dunno how you find the time! I did a few reviews for echoes & dust, but I'm SUCH a procrastinator/lazy bastard I couldn't keep it up.

I find I have big stream of conciousness when I listen to music and this is just getting it down. Each one take time, I listen to the music in different places, systems and then just sit down and write everything I feel. Then I edit it down in to the 350 words or what ever for the review. Its like tonight, the wife is watching tele and I'm sat listening to music so its an extension to just write a stream of conciousness. I do think my notes would be better to get across what I feel but a lot of people would think "what the fuck", to many tangents :)

I think that spirit comes across, you're going about it the right way. I don't think mine were particularly good anyway.

i actually liked yours as it felt like it was from someone who "knew". In fact it was your reviews that made me want to do the reviews when Dan asked so I think you should carry on stew. The thing is, we are all "expert" listeners and its great to find people to empaphise with, and that is what reviews facilitate at the end of the day. I often find musician reviews more stimulating but feel at times I need to hold some of those sentiments back incase the nuiances are missed. but at the end of the day they aren't, they just need to be reflected in a different way.

These chaps supported Scratch Acid when I saw them recently. I couldn't work out if their singer was really drunk, a bit mental or both. They were like a more metal Jesus Lizard but with less riffs.
