In Japan they came in different colors. I don't believe this is one of them.

I remember now that the Japanese ones were called 'Jaguar Bottom Master'. Possibly something that put people off them a bit. I don't remember the range but they at least came in VWH.
Some more info on the guitar at the start of this thread in
this one at bassvi.org

Bottom Master was a little different, having no Rhythm circuit, and instead having on-board fuzz in its place.

Are thEse pretty much unobtainable? They are never on eBay. When they are, what do they sell for?

The baritone (27") Jag baritones go for $1-2k, and the Baritone Custom/VI (28.5") pretty much go for Bass VI Reissue prices; ~$2k.

Am I completely wrong in thinking that they went for like 700 new?

You are not wrong.
I almost got a Jag Baritone Custom in 2008; was saving the money, went home for Christmas, and when I got back it was sold. I was a little bit sad... but I had also used the money I saved after Christmas to buy my Aerodyne Telecaster, which is an awesome guitar, so I wasn't THAT angry.

I got my Baritone Custom (in the standard burst) for £650 about 6 months ago. Super nice guitar, and the rhythm section is very usable, I was expecting the sound to go too muddy with the low tuning ( I have mine B to b) but it works splendidly!

That's so much of a better idea than a rhythm circuit. I am pro bottom master.
