Hey guys,

I tried looking for a thread about Harmony Bobkats but after 5 pages I had no luck.

So a facebook friend of mine is offering to sell me a 66 Bobkat.

He said it is missing a lot of paint by the strap buttons, and that there is fret buzz near the first few frets. I am sure I can try to fix all of that.
It is a 1966. Do you guys know anything about these guitars? Their worth? If they have a truss-rod? If it would be easy to fix fret buzz on them?

I am pretty excited, it is such a gorgeous guitar.

The DeArmond pickups go for pretty big money and are supposed to sound pretty sweet as well.
I watch them quite often on ebay and they seem to go for $250 to $450 in good condition.
I'm almost positive they all have a truss rod.
Post some pics if you can.

this is one my buddy got for free. i think this is what you're talking about?

made in usa. based on my limited knowledge and short research, this appears to be a mid-60's version, as well. it's since been strung up, and has an ultra thin neck. really comfortable to play.

Oh gods, that thing looks terrible :P It's mostly the guard, but the overall shape isn't appealing to me.
Plays nice... but how's it sound? That's a neat looking pickup... and what does the switch do?

i actually haven't amped it up. the dude got it from an estate sale that he was working. i just strung it and didn't have an amp to play through it. passed the screwdriver test, though.

yeah, it's ugly. but the neck is more comfortable than any other department store guitar i've played in the past.

They can be cool or they can be shit. I played one a while ago that had a narrow neck in regards to fretboard width, but I swear to glob that it had to be thicker than a baseball bat. Insanity.

The one I am looking at is sunburst with two pickups. Much like the one in the link West posted but with two pickups.

So I should play it for sure...?

Yes. You owe it to yourself. Those Rowe-Dearmond pickups can be some of the best things you'll ever hear although I personally feel they sound best on hollowbodies. A two pickup model stands a much better chance of being a winner than the single ones.

the necks tend to be fairly chunky. The pickups are awesome. They have a unique sound. If this one is playable, you should get it for sure.

Anyone who dresses like the douche in the bottom vid has no cred in my book.

I used to have one, bought it at a yardsale for $10. Personally I'd have called it a deal at twice that cost.

My cousin has the one pickup version.
The neck is a nice 20 frets. It's a bit clunky but in a good way if you like playing bar chords and whatnot.
Those gold-foil pickups are fucking wild though. Plug it into a fuzzface and you'll be surprised so gritty it sounds.
