Flanger Demo

Flanger Demo
I went ahead and did this demo for the Yamaha FL-10MII Flanger. I'd been saying I was going to demo it for a while now anyway. I just wanted to show the diverse sounds you can get from the pedal, and flanger pedals in general.

This pedal is a fantastic value if you can find one. I got this for, I think it was $16 on eBay and it's a really lush sounding and flexible flanger. In this demo I tried to show sounds ranging from the pleasant to harsh/weird. The fat/heavy distortion is a russian big muff. The bright distortion is an MXR Distortion +.

cogito ergo sum...thing or other...
if you've ever played with one, it seems like it should go for something like that. it's as good or better than any BOSS or Ibanez flanger. even other older yamaha pedals like this usually go for more in that range. the thing is, flangers always have some of the worst resale value in any line of pedals. they're just not that desirable. which I don't really get actually, because if you get a good one it can do a really wide range of sounds. they're really useful.

I think it's that sound around the 1.30 mark that puts people off flangers. Sounds really dated nowadays, doesn't it?
Don't get me wrong - I'm seldom without a flanger, but I tend to eke out the wealth of other timbres in there and avoid that jet-plane flanger sound like the plague.
Good demo....and a real bargain buy.

that sound at the beginning was something that got recorded while I was messing with the knobs trying to find a sound. it sounded interesting so I threw it in there. yeah the jet phase kinda sound is very sort of billy duffy/the cult. I tried to show not quite as swirly a variety of it with the drop-D riff at 2:45.
flangers are definitely the sort of pedals that you have to put a little time into to learn how to use them. there are too many variables to just twist the knobs around until you find something (and you'll never be able to find the same sound again). you have to learn what each knob does.
I actually did find a manual for it.
