Marshall AVT 50 combo...?

I have been looking for a good solid state combo and was wondering if you guys/gals have any experience with these. I was looking at a Peavey Studio Pro 112 but after playing on it I realized that it did not have the warmth or mid range I prefer. It had more of an American type sound and I am down with the Brit tones. This is what led me to these older used Marshall AVT50's.

-Would it be a good back up/ easy to grab and go jam amp?
-Does the Pre tube really make a difference?
-Are they better than a MG50 combo?
-Do they take pedals well?

Any help or thoughts would be very much appreciated.

I had the head version for a short period of time, the clean channel was nice, I thought the OD channel was complete gash though. Not really convinced the preamp tube really adds much.

That said I dunno if mine was a duff one a friend of mine had the all singing all dancing AVT150 head which he got good sounds out of.

I've had the AVT150H with a AVT412 cab, so that's what I'm basing this on:
SGJarrod wrote:-Would it be a good back up/ easy to grab and go jam amp? Yep, pretty good backup I'd have said. Reasonably versatile but does the Marshall sound pretty well by itself. I'm not certain how loud the 50 would be, though, in terms of keeping up with a drummer.
-Does the Pre tube really make a difference? Not a bit. Don't let that put you off though, it still sounds good.
-Are they better than a MG50 combo? Yes. Much, much, much better.
-Do they take pedals well? I always thought so, or at least I always found the 150 has enough clean headroom for me.
To be honest, given that they aren't that expensive, I don't think I'd bother with the 50, but would go straight for the 150 second hand, or even the 275, but I suppose that's not as grabbable as the 150 with it's 112 enclosure. Reverb is really good on them too, if that means anything to you. I see plenty enough value in the 150 that it sort of diminishes the value in the amps lower in the range.

Also, I'm not sure what the speaker out options are on the 50, whereas the 150 could be used with a cab if you need presence at a gig or whatever. Something I think I'd want as an option in a backup amp.

I had a second hand one for a while. Didn't gig it very much, but it was pretty resilient.
