Where to get pickguards cut cheap for Canada

Post by Ankhanu »

Last week, I sold my old style Schecter Hellcat VI (with the Duncan Design mini-humbuckers) and ordered the new version with Seymour Duncan SJAG-1 pickups; again, I ordered the 3TS with giant tort pick guard.

While I love the general look and how these guys play, I hate the giant tort pickguard... the tort is generally fine, but there's just too much pickguard for it to look good. As such, I want to get a new guard cut for it.

Question is, where can I get a guard cut for a decent price in, or shipped to, Canada? I assume I'll have to mail off a tracing of my guard to whomever will be making it.

I've considered ordering a blank from GFS and cutting it myself, but I don't have any experience cutting guards, and have limited tools. I still may go that route, I dunno. If I go with cutting my own, any advice would be appreciated (I'll also look through the threads, as I'm sure that topic's been well covered).

Mostly leaning towards BWB, but I did a couple mock-ups.
There aren't many good options, mainly due to the sheer size of the guard on these things, but, here's a mockup of black:

And one in white, one in parchment and one in mint.
Colour suggestions welcome.

I anticipate an ugly route under there.

I give up. Polar bear?

Terrapin has gotten good ink. I bought uncut blanks from a guy in Canada. Haven't tried guards yet.
