Hi lately I've been considering selling my Vox to help me buy a Twin Reverb, basically I'm looking for a super loud and clean (like really loud, I need to keep up with various large ensembles and big bands).

The Twin seems like the perfect choice and it's what the majority of my favourite guitarists use. So I was just wondering what your opinions on this would be?

The Vox certainly isn't bad, its just not perfect.

Edit: Having spent my time since I posted this thread looking at the perfect amp, I've narrowed it down to either a twin reverb or a ampeg gemini ii (leaning towards the ampeg if I can find one).

add 20 pounds to the weight of the AC30, that's the how much more you'll carry with a twin reverb. Who are your favorite guitarists?

Weight isn't too much of an issue, that'd still be lighter than my friend's bass cab we lug around.

People like Kurt Rosenwinkle, Gilad Hekselman, Jonathan Kriesberg - and a lot of the other jazz players on the circuit at the moment.

I think with a few pedals I'll be able to get some good rock sounds too, so that's not too much of a problem really.

Ah, Jazz guitar sounds, for that a Twin perfect. For rock tones you'd only need to use pedals as they make great platform amps.

Twins are the cleanest of the clean. Perfect for jazz. But that also makes them sound amazing with pedals. DO IT.

Sounds like it's exactly what you need. If you have no issue with weight then there's no reason not to.

In watching various Fender amps for sale, the secondhand prices are topsy-turvy: Twin RIs go for least (seen them go for Â£450), then DRRIs (Â£550ish) then Princetons (Â£600+). There are bargains to be had if you're after a Twin...

Thats interesting, there appear to be a good few on ebay, but they're all too expensive, and none have any bids anyway. Gumtree is a lot cheaper, but they're all too far away. I'll just have to keep my eye on the different websites. Need to offload my vox first, but preferably not when I haven't found a new amp, or when I have a lot of gigs booked.

Are the pro-tube twins any good? I'm not interested in the dirty channel, would it make more sense to wait for a reissue, or silverface?

I would (and did) go Silverface. Prices were no higher than 65RI Twins, really, but it did take a little patience to get one at a good price. I got it for about $750 with international shipping.

Where did you find that?! I can't find any RI Twins for that price including shipping to Canada.

I had a blackface 'the Twin' from the late 90's, the three channel one, and it was pretty decent, even the overdrive sounded good, and yes, it took pedals far better than my Marshall.

It was incredibly heavy though - much heavier than any other 2x12 I've used before.

A couple months of eBay.ca stalking in 2005. It did take a lot of patience and letting higher price amps slip by.
I got it from a shop in Texas; shipping was either $100 or $150 ish.

I'm sure AC30s go for a fair few quid more than a Twin. So don't do a straight swap. SF twins should still be around the Â£500 mark if you shop around because no-one wants them because they weigh a ton and are proper icepicky.

Well I've stuck my vox on ebay, so what websites should I frequent looking for a twin? I've got a saved search on ebay and I keep checking gumtree but are there any other places to check?

Ah gutted, the deal fell through on my Vox so have been unable to buy the twin. Ah well, just need a little more patience and I might be able to pick up a vintage model.

Are there any shops that you guys would recommend?
