You might want to consider involving yourself with the community more (especially the Pub), so posters can place a face/attitude/personality to all the music you upload.

I know I'd rather hear a friend's song than a stranger's song.

you bothered to say all that....
but not to listen to the song?

i'm here to share.
if what i have to share is valuable to someone, i'd hope to hear some feedback on it.
i use shortscale and custom guitars to do almost all of my music, and would hope that since this place is called 'shortscale', it might interest someone.

i've posted quite a bit in the other forums here, but have been mostly ignored.
quite a few gear-related, guitar related posts, but just like the tumbleweed, they just dry up and float down the page with no responses, so i'm not inclined to put a lot more effort into it than i already have.

I occasionally browse the PUB, and there are a LOT of silly posts there, a lot of what i would call juvenile posts, it's just not something that appeals to me.

if this is strictly a "good-ole boy's club", then i guess i'm in the wrong place.

i'm looking for serious minded musicians, songwriters, and sound engineers, and folks that are into the gear for the end result... not just the gear.

T'was very well-produced and put together but not really my thing, so I figured I'd spare you my opinion.

Was that all you? I'm impressed by the skills and I hope you're not insulted if I say I could draw some similarities (in a good way) with post-split Wishbone Ash. The lyrics aren't as strong IMHO.

Not my cup of tea genre wise, but it's nicely done. Thanks for sharing.

It sounds like the menu music from an early 2000's video game.

DOOG
it's cool if it's not your thing.
i mean, jeez........just think, if you tried to write something that please everybody, how successful do you think you would be?
it's more about songcraft, recording, using the 'shortscales', and all that. at least for me.

i don't know, going back to your original post, are you saying that this is all really about just making internet friends?

MIKE
that's cool. what kind of stuff DO you like?

NICKS
yes, i write the stuff and record it.
lyrics, yea, they're not supposed to be all deep and intense... it's pretty much a straight up idea, with a minimum of words to convey it.
trying to let the intensity of the groove tell the story more....
i've heard some wishbone ash before, way back when, but don't hear any similarity at all..
could you point me to some specific examples, i'd love to hear them... see if i can steal something!
LOL

OTHOMAS2
thanks for checking it out anyway.
i don't know what genre this would be
trying to avoid genres right now

LOUIS
well, that's a weird comment.
i never played any video games in the 2000's, so i wouldn't know what that's supposed to sound like.
i suppose this is something you're very adept at, i'd love to find out what kind of video game had stuff that sounded this way.
LOL
no cookie monster vocals, at least..... did 2000-era video games have a lot of that death metal kind of stuff on it?
my aunt's sons used to play some game called Resident Evil, i only know about that because of the movie.......

Makes me think of Slash and GnR.... but with a slightly more modern twist.

Not a fan of GnR, but that would be a compliment to many.

Quality is really good and you can certainly play, props to anyone who puts themselves out there. :D

Totally, write the music that makes you happy!

Naaah not totally; I just think you might get more people interested in your music if they had some insight to your life and such.. just tryin' to help, bud.

srsly, grow up a bit and quit spamming the whore house with your gross strat and bazillion threads with subjects in "QUOTATIONS" and "QUIRKY SONG TITLES."

i haven't listened to the songs because you post like a knob.

Something that either has heart, soul, intelligently written lyrics, makes me laugh, is catchy, or makes me want to dance like a loon, or all over these.

This is none of the above in my opinion. I tried to listen to it all the way through but got horribly bored.

I tried listening to some of your stuff and got the impression that it was just an exercise in recording, rather than actually trying to write something meaningful. Anyone can sit and solo over a song for 3-4 minutes but it's harder to actually give the song some soul/heart/balls etc. It's not my thing but I would hope that doesn't put you off.

I agree that if you participated in some other areas of the forum you'd get a little more attention for your music. Regardless of whether people like it or not, they may be a little more forthcoming in giving their opinion, which isn't necessarily giving a critique of the song, it could be complimenting you on your production technique, say.

Don't take people's opinions of your music to heart - someone's shit is another's sherbet, as they say.

Of course this whole place isn't just about making internet friends, but I think most people join a forum in order to talk to new people about shared interests and potentially make new friends, not just to fish for compliments every time they write a new song. Over half of your posts here have been in The Whore House, doesn't that tell you something? And so many of those posts are you just bumping your old threads because you didn't get enough people telling you how amazing you are. You get in such a piss when people don't praise what you've done, but how many times have you been into someone else's Whore House thread and praised their work?

I make a lot of music, and probably more than half of it goes in the Whore House, but I don't make a brand new thread for every single song I write. If something doesn't get a response I assume that it's because no-one was interested, and if I do bump a thread it's to add something to what I already posted and not just "BUMP LOL". Not everybody is going to like all the music you ever make, but you can make them more likely to take an interest by being a nice guy. And I'm not saying that you're not a nice guy, I'm saying that I have no idea whether you're a nice guy or not because you don't involve yourself in the community, you just use this forum as a means of promoting your music.

Think of it like promoting a band. You can't just send labels, promoters, venues etc... your music and expect them to jump at the chance to work with you. You have to network, get your face known, show up at lots of gigs, and come across like a nice guy that people want to work with. Even if you're making music better than anyone before you has ever made, you won't get anywhere unless you make friends with people. And it's the same on this forum. Make friends with people and they will want to hear your music, don't try to force it upon them with endless inane bumps.

gnr, yeah, i guess i can hear where that would be coming from.
i mean, it's kinda hard rock, it's got a few power chordy things going on, but i think the groove is way more funky than the stuff GNR did, which was more straight ahead downbeat stuff.
i like gnr, but they were never an influence.
thanks for the comments.

doog
i appreciate it man.

hotrodperlmutter
hehe, f off dude.
who cares.
that reply made you look mighty foolish.

simon
nah, i think you couldn't be more off base.
this was a well thought out and constructed song, there's no jamming in there anywhere.
but, hey, you said what you thought, so thanks.
and don't worry, nothing puts me off.
i do what i do for myself, if anyone else gets it, that's cool.
and
i do post in the other areas.
have for some time.

freddy v-c
thanks for your thoughts.
i'm busy, writing a lot.
i'm doing a lot of recording right now.
my output is high.

i like getting some feedback on stuff, if it's creative and helpful, that's why i post.

i'm trying to be a nice guy, i'm just busy, moving, you know....

some folks are more laid back about it.
this is my way of trying to get to 'know people', and i've been trying to be nice about it along the way.

if i post something, and it gets a bunch of hits, but doesn't get a single response, i've got two choices..
i can either just go away, or i can stand up and say 'hey, don't ignore me here, i've got something to say'.
i choose to stay, and be in the mix.

I think if you keep your stuff to one thread like Freddy has done with his musical output or even what Mike has done with his pedals then you (we the reader) get to see the whole picture and an evolution in things. Just makes things more consistant, rather then just dotted threads about the place.
If that makes sense?
