Packing a guitar in luggage, neck off

Greetings from Spain. It's cold and rainy here, and it snowed the other day.

I bought an Avril Lavigne tele in decent condition off the local classifieds for a price which could only be described as "FUCKING CHEAP" (100 €) by my standards... however luggage restrictions are gonna fuck me, so I gotta figure out how to get it home. I'm thinking neck off, wrap the body and neck in clothes for padding, and putting them in my suitcase, which I will then carry on.

Any suggestions, thoughts, etc?

Store it in your bottom.

i've always just put guitars into a hard shell case when flying, never paid more, never had an issue.

however..
if that won't work

wrap the body, wrap the neck, pack them in the middle of suit case..
if they are going in your carry on be prepared to answer questions as your suitcase gets x-ray'd

I don't even have a gig bag here. I'm gonna look tomorrow for bubble wrap and possibly a slightly larger suitcase. All Avril has to do is survive 8 hours in a plane and approximately 2 1/2 hours of handling by airline apes.

Can you try and get is as cary on? I see people do this frequently in the continental US. I sat next to Justin Timberlake's bass player a year ago and he brought his bass on. Either they let it in overhead or at the closet in the flight attendants section.

Neck off, in clothes would be easy way, as with corpse.
