My mex duo

She's nothing special yet, just a beat up 95-96 mex reissue duo-sonic. I bought her six months ago, but got the hots for a tele so put her back to the shop to sell on my behalf. I really missed her, so managed to get her back before she sold; the tele can wait. Plans for the duo are a set of kluson vintage tuners, a thicker pickguard, a toronado bridge (if I can find one) and a pickup change. I have a set of American standard strat pickups that I might use, but I'm getting drawn to some Alamo's from axes'r'us. I have a couple of young sons who will soon have outgrown their samick half size strat, so this will be perfect for them.... If they can get it off me....

I like it! Looks so classy in black like a tux. Smart move, getting it back.

That's nice. My dad had the same one in red a few years ago kicking around and when I finally asked him if I could take it before it collected more dust he said that my cousin has it hanging on his wall...collecting dust.

Got these ready to go onto my new pickups (when I've decided what I'm going for). I'm thinking of a w/b/w scratch plate and black knobs as well.....

That's a nice Tele.... Does the single pickup make it an esquire? There's not many of those over here (yet)... I'll be getting a tele at some point, but won't be selling the duo to get it. Thanks for the kind words about my Mexican duo, everyone.

Yeah, the single bridge pickup, tele-bodied guit is the essence of the esquire. In addition, there's some interesting circuitry going on, including a quick-change switch for tone and such.
I like the duo a lot. such quirky guitars!

Just been to the local guitar shop to drop off my partscaster strat to get set up. While I was there I found some unused ten year old Fender Vintage noiseless single coils, still in their boxes. Presumably they were ordered by a customer years ago but were never used. I could have them for a good price, and the shop will set them up as well. Has anyone any experience of these, especially fitted to something like a mex duo sonic?

I've pulled a set of 2004 american standard strat pickups out of my partscaster this morning. I'll be swapping over the pickups and machine heads into the duosonic later. Look out for pics.

What happened about the Noiseless deal?

Looks like they'll be going into the strat... But call me fickle, I might change my mind in a day or two. The strat is in bits on the kitchen table, and I'm just about to pull the pickguard off the duo, soldering gear at the ready.

I pulled the pickups out of my strat, sorted out the cut and shut wiring and dropped them in the duo sonic. I'm a novice solderer so was really learning as I went along, but made a tidy enough job and got everything back together again. I put on a new set of 10s and had a quick play... It sounds great, warmer and deeper than the old ceramics and plenty of tone. I took a few pics if anyone wants to see yet another batch of pickup change pics. Unfortunately my plan to put black single coil pup covers on didn't come off as they were much to deep and the bobbins didn't poke through. Next job will be a machine head change and a pickguard swap.
