I just saw this resistor tool PDF on Boing Boing. Turns out people can read resistors by COLORs! I don't know either. Also have app for iPhone.

In school our shop teacher had us remember almost the same rhyme, except the beginning to his was Bad Booze.

..unless, like my colleague on my electronics degree course, you are colour blind.

Actually, one of my computing colleagues who used to design lighting desks (and toured with Pink Floyd in America as lighting assistant) is also colour blind. Printed values are much more helpful.
