Guitars always sound better than the same guitar in any other colour... why?

oh, I love scumburst, but it certainly doesn't make a guitar sound better.

Maybe it's to do with the weight. I have 2 JM's, one sunburst and one CAR. The CAR is definitely heavier than the sunburst and i've always preferred the sunburst.

T'was more of a realisation that my love of sunburst tricks me into believing this... if I play two guitars identical in every other way I always think the sunburst one sounds better... this is obviously utter rubbish but I still think "the sunburst just has teh mojo".

On this note I have two Telecasters in CAR and Burst, the CAR is substantially heavier.

I guess, on a lot of guitar, you could argue that since they use X wood over Y wood on their sunburst model; it sounds better. But underneath 1/4 inch poly, I still won't believe it.

And even then, on most scumburst, they use the same wood as the other colors.

Depends what you mean by "better". Siena burst has to sound brighter than three-colour burst.

A little known fact : Sunbursting actually involves a long chemical process whereby supercharged ions emitted by violent solar flares are collected and refracted onto the guitar's surface. The natural magnetic field of the wood, albeit weak, causes a concentration of ions at the body's edges, hence the colour gradient. After several weeks the process yields a wood with an inherently more resonant microstructure and a richer acoustic index. Sunburst guitars do sound better.
