Some guy came to my garage sale to buy music stuff and a six string tenor uke, he was too late. Turns out he was the VP of the local high school and has guitars sitting around his office. He shows delinquents how to play chords and stuff whey he as them in his office for detention and stuff. We start talking about guitars and other things. Turns out he knows my kids because he lives next door to their best friends. I bring him in and show him my goodwill finds and the one I fixed up that billy3000 gave me.

About 20 minutes later he gives me this old teisco that he will never get around to fixing and he only plays acoustic anyway.

It was all in parts, but I put it together and gave it a set up. I got some low, no buzz action on it. Scale is 23.75" Probably needs a new rewire, one pup works, but has grounding buzz problem. So I am excited to see that it is actually playable and has potential with some care and work.

The bridge is junk, so I am thinking of mustang/jag bridge (it is fender spaced) and then get rid of trem and go string through. Not sure, but I wanted to do a duo sonic bridge, but I don't think it will work because the bridge needs to be high due to the style of guitar and very thin body. I am also going to make a custom mustang style guard for it. Thinking Daphne blue with mint guard.

Any thoughts, shoot them this way. Should be a fun project.

I really like how it is now, especially the pickguard. What's left of the trem looks cool as is and I think it'd be possible to convert it to a string through relatively easily. There could be something wrong with the switch if it isn't the pickup. How's it sound plugged in, it's a bolt on right?

I'm too into the natural look vs. the sonic blue mint green 'guard. That pickguard pictured is gross in my opinion, and the strap button on the top horn looks troublesome. That bridge looks like the one on my teisco, the mustang bridge sounds like a decent plan if you're really not satisfied with how it's set up.

I' d leave or just convert it to a hardtail and most. The story is way better than any "improvements" you could make with it.

I am still into he planning stages of what to do. The bridge won't intonate and the strings pop off the little grooves too easily. There are little grooves wore into the zero fret that the strings pop out of if you bend around the 3rd fret.

I was a little worried if this thing was even going to be playable, that is why I bolted it all up and tossed some strings on it in the first place. The mahogany neck has no truss rod, but must have the ol' steel reinforced neck like the old Silvertone and Danelectro's had. So I was worried about what strings to use because there was no truss rod adjustment. I tossed on some 9's I had laying around and the neck seems fine. There is a slight high spot on parts of two frets at 17 and 18 that I will need to sand down a bit. But since it can be played I will go forward with the electronics. I will pull the guard and test all the bits from the switches to the pup and pots. I think I need to ground the whole guts. It has a 100k volume pot (which is a great thing to do with strats imho) and a 500k tone pot. Someone had done a nice glossy finish on the neck, and I soaked the old fretboard with Watco Danish oil. Whoever did the body clear coat did a bad job and there is finger print and dust all over it.

if you're installing a new bridge, especially a jag bridge, make sure that the body is thick enough to handle the thimbles. a lot of these old catalog guitars are dreadfully thin.

looks like a cool project in any case.

Thought of the replacement trem. Just think I would rater have a hard tail, had not ruled it out though.

Would have to know the string spacing for the tunomatic bridge will work. I can't remember if the jag/mustang sting spacing is different then the one you posted.

god damn, what a cool guitar. you should try to figure out a way to get a strat/tele neck on it. because that neck looks like turd shit.

maybe make a new guard that would roll around a toronado bridge? or just put an AOM/stop tail on it. TOM string spacing would probably be too wide for this neck... but maybe it's reversed to my thoughts.

awesome. leave it that color and a black guard, tits.

FWIW, I would change as little as possible. Redo the finish on the body, the pickguard that came with it or your choice. I believe all of these bridges will work, and would contribute to a clean, mean look,

Hi,

I am new here and I have almost the exact same project going on. I won a body and neck on ebay for 5 bucks. I had a Duo-Sonic neck that someone had sawed off the the last fret approx. 3/16". Anyway I am slowly fixing it up collecting parts and doing the finishing. I have the first sanding sealer coat on and I am about ready to grain fill it. I made a pickguard out of a scrap piece of lexan for testing shapes and switch placement etc. Anyway I wanted to share what I have so far. I was so happy to have found this thread.
I had been lurking due to an issue with my username and password which the kind mod fixed for me today..

Cool project AZ. Are you going to make a project thread about your guitar? Maybe you did and I missed it.

Well I am still stewing and thinking of what to do. I am going to sort out the electronics when I get a chance. My soccer season is winding down so I should be getting a little free time soon.

If anyone has a little scrap of pearloid white picguard material (4"x4") I could use that to replace the broken stuff on my pup tops. That would be cool.

Thanks,

I am sanding and sealing and sanding and sanding.. :) Pick guard needs a bit more refined shaping.. The next bid step will be pickups and placement of the pick ups. I suppose typical Mustang placement but I don't have any to use for a pattern. I don't know but I bet you guys do.. are they the same size as strat pickups? Toying with the idea of lipsticks but I don't want to do much more until I get the wood stained and cleared.

Cheers,

-Allen
