Has anybody had any experience with these or even the smaller versions? Any good? What sort of sounds can you get out of it? Is it super loud? What are the settings like on it? How well does the software work? Also are there any other (preferably cheaper) cab alternatives that will work with the mustang head but sound good?

Im looking for a head/cab and in terms of bang for buck I haven't been able to find much that compares. I've also been recommended this one specifically based on sound quality.

I haven't played the Mustang V (I own a Mustang I, and think it's good value), but I've been in the crowd when someone played one on stage... It was definitely loud enough for the small venue, through a 410, and it sounded pretty good to my ears. The person using it didn't use a lot of the options, but what he chose worked very well for their style. I asked him about it afterwards, and he's been pretty pleased with the amp since he's had it; finding it pretty flexible.

If you want a cab i'd take a look at progrockabuse's.

I was thinking that but the ohms are wrong or something i think. I have no idea how these things work but quickly ran it past a friend and he didn't seem to think it would work?

Nah, it'll work. The Mustang V appears to have two 8 ohm outputs (for the stereo poweramp). Prog's cab is 16 ohms, meaning you could use ONE of these outputs and plug directly into the cab. It will be half as powerful, mind, and any stereo FX would be less impressive.

HOWEVER, the cab may actually have two 8 ohm speakers (two 8 ohm speakers in series = 16 ohms), so you could stick another jack on the cab, allowing access to each 8 ohm speaker individually; a perfect match for the Mustang V.

Louis, you'd asked about the FUSE software--it's good and very easy to use. I have a Mustang I and have replaced a lot of the high-gain and gimmicky patches with others I've tweaked using FUSE or patches submitted by other FUSE users. It also comes with Ableton Lite and Amplitube Fender LE (which I haven't used yet).

ok, but does wattage have any baring on anything, so its a 150W amp, do I need a cab that has an equal or higher wattage? im so crap.

I know its just my ignorance but it fucks me off a bit that the cab is the same price as the head. To me, at least the head does something, cabs just sit there looking obnoxious.

I use to think this as well but a GREAT cab is worth its weight in gold!!!!! if you can do not skimp and u will get a great cab u can have forever

and you are correct that Proggy's cab would not handle enough power

Oh twatz, I didn't think about that. Yeah, the cab will need to be 150+w indeed.

You should buy it anyways, I want to know what the "POO" present sounds like:

EQ with frown curve --> Slow phaser mixed 50% with dry signal --> Preamp distortion --> amp eq with slight smile curve, or flat --> Power-tube saturation --> Dummy load --> Speaker

Some call it the "brown sound", I imagine there was a copyright issue at play.

Twice!

You can run a cab with a lower wattage than the head, as long as you don't run the head at full volume. It does risk blowing the speaker if you take the piss with the volume though.
