My recent experience with a charming K-Pop lassie...

Post by ultratwin »

My latest out-of office work has been with a local 27 year old solo artist who has a knack for writing some really nice tunes. This one just got released yesterday, I having the joy of arranging and tracking the instruments. I went for a '60s/'70s pop feel with the chamber instruments and trumpet solo.

Her voice is really weird (in a cool way), naturally sounding somewhere between Bjork and Feist, depending on her vocal dynamic and breathiness, although her production company directed her vocals on this tune, having her belt out a bit and sound more like herself. The guitar and drums were also unfortunately mixed a bit too "loose" for my liking and the whole thing came out a lot more messy than my original arrangement. :x

She also sang the lead vocal for the Samsung Galaxy S III 30" and 15" commercials I wrote late last month, which should be on your local TV station in just over a week's time (yay). If all goes well, I hope to at least arrange rest of her next full length. We'll see, this was a fun one to make.

A live version of one of her other tunes...

I regretfully was too busy to arrange this one, and a simplified in-house version ended up on the single album.

Thanks for the listen, Stewmann.

Alas, I tend squash everything by default and am oversensitive to a strummed acoustic guitar's midrange.
