the anti-rhythm circuit - up north sessions

Post by hotrodperlmutter »

so, this is my first real post with output from my band. we played a show in march, and it went really well, but we lost our drummer to douchebaggery.

we've resolved to just doing all our material acoustic while we audition drummers. this is what we got, from about 4 recording sessions at a university studio (pro tools) about 45 minutes north of us.

i did not get any consent from the band to release these here, so it's on the honor system. please don't post about it on FB (assuming you're that crazy about any of the tracks). i'm relatively pleased with most of them, as i was dealing with a dying guitar throughout most of the recording. it is my first shot at vocals, some are cringingly good, psych.

i would appreciate any and all feedback, as we can still go in and polish it anytime. i know there's a few things i want to change, already, and am aware of the distortion on some of the chorus vocals. we'd like to have something to release by the end of June/beginning of July.

thanks, y'all.

01 - 88MPH
02 - Take Me Home
03 - Don't Push Me Away
04 - Past Tense
05 - Bait & Switch
06 - This Place is a Prison (The Postal Service cover) - this was not actually intended to be a track, but i recorded it in one shot with the guitar to test the levels from a new microphone (neumann), and we unanimously decided to include with these songs. the other guys added classical guitar, bass and cello in overdubs. quite proud of it.
stream each track in order before dl, if you please.

i really like this, I like the tone of the guitar, nice and mellow and the singing is pretty cool as well. better than a lot of the singer song writers about at the moment

Streaming doesn't work for my Win7 32-bit/FireFox12 setup. Shows "Connecting.." then "Ready" but clicking the play button does nothing.

Wow.
Good stuff, I especially liked 1,2,4, and 6.
1 and 2 are my faves.
Would love to hear off of these tracks with electric instruments and drums when you guys get a drummer sorted out.
I think those elements would allow you to build the intensity of these songs a great deal.

I wasn't familiar with the PS cover - I like your verson much better than the original.

thanks for sharing.

i'm actually working on that. the theatre we recorded in had this amazing humongous bird sculpture installation that i'm planning on using for the front.

the cover of the cd will probably be a better picture of this guitar:
