BILLY RAY OSIRIS- improv noise jamz

so, met up with a few guys last night, ostensibly for a krautrock-style improv session, just to see what happened. the result was three hours of extremely noisy music. my ears are fucked today, because i forgot to take earplugs, not realising it would be like standing next to a jet engine all night.

however, part of the jam was recorded on a zoom H2, cleaned up a bit and cut into four sections. so yeah, not krautrock really, more like slabs of metallic noise set to (at times) some fairly groovy riddimz. there's talk of doing more sessions and recording them properly, editing stuff down and putting out an album. just like that!

have a listen, see what you think. bear in mind this is the first time we've all been in a room together, and is completely off the cuff. i'm on bass, and there are three guitarists and (obviously) a drummer.

i've already started doing sketches for artwork, because i'm a nerd.

Will have another few listens when I'm back in work, but sounds fucking knockout. The sort of mischief I'd like to get up to.

I'm surprised it's listenable at all, when we were playing all I could hear was the sound of my synapses bursting. So fucking loud. Hope I haven't done permanent damage. Good fun though.

Meant to say, part of the reason it's divided up is because there was brief points where the drums stopped and the kit hastily kicked backed together- the damn thing was literally falling apart.

here's a new thing if anyone's interested. edited down from a 50 minute improvisation. only two guitarists this time, i'm on bass again. some weird stuff happens towards the end as one of the guitars is tuned down to A, patched through a 2 octave down thing and combined in the amp again, so sometimes i've no idea what's me and what's him. it's a bit rough in places but has some cool RIFFZ.

edit: you can also download the thing i posted a while back from our newly minted bandcamp page: http://billyrayosiris.bandcamp.com

here's a new thing. again it's just recorded on a wee mini digirecorder, and there's no kick drum because the skin burst on the first song, so there's a floor tom turned on its side instead. still sounds pretty good though, i reckon. see what you think. it's quite drone-y, feedback drenched, the usual.

(think you need to download it, doesn't seem to be streamable from dropbox)

NEW THINGS

we're still just mucking around with improv until we're confident enough to get a set together and book some gigs. some really nice stuff coming up at rehearsal though, have a listen to this one as a particular example of one i'm really proud of:

Make a t-shirt Stewpot. I'd buy one (then change my mind about the colour a lot of times).

new billy ray jams! the first is from last month, and contains some of my favourite moments so far. a couple of new improvisations, and re-runs of older things (two of which are available as bonus tracks if you download it). the version of 'Elton Song - Your John' here is properly evil, and 'It's a Poltergeist!' sounds pretty darn filthy too. the next one is a live recording of our second gig, which i think went pretty well. this doesn't capture how seriously fucking loud it was, but that's always going to be an issue. click pix 4 linx.
