OK, this is in the short scale forum, so let's talk about short scales. I compared this guitar to the Jag with no intention of getting both. I was set on the JM. However, the Jag sounded just as good to me ... beautiful, crisp, and clear. I couldn't decide. Then I saw someone else looking at the JM with the intention to buy, so I grabbed both and went up the register. I figured, fuck it, if I change my mind I'm sure a fellow shortscalien will buy one of these from me. So, no Jag demo because I made a hasty exit to secure both guitars. I'll make one later this week for sure!

I also saw a JM JM in the window but decided not to bother

I initially had a lot more to say about these guitars but am tired now. Happy to answer any questions though.

How does the Jag sound and play compared to an AVRI or CP? I'm really thinking about getting a Jaguar. I've played the AVRI, I like it and was surprised at how muscular the pickups are. I'd rather have the right break angle on the tremolo so haven't given a lot of thought to the CP...

Did they have any Mustangs?

No mustangs to speak of. I don't think any in store pics of the 'stangs have surfaced at OSG yet either. They are missing in action thusfar.

The ones I bought were $299. I feel like it was a great bargain, especially considering I paid the exact same amount for my first guitar in 1994 (a very subpar MIM strat).

I have no experience with the CP line, but I used to own an AVRI Jag. It's a tough comparison because the AVRI is in a different league. However, I was incredibly surprised by the Squier Jag. As I said above, I had absolutely no intention of buying this guitar but did it anyway. Fretboard was smooth and easy to play. Pups were bright and had that nice twang and snap. In some ways (blasphemy alert) I liked these pups better than the AVRI pups. Probably not a lot of people will agree with me there but seriously, this guitar is worth $299.

I might sell the Jag ... if you're interested I'll give you first dibs since you're local. I'd really like to keep it but I have had problems with Jags in the past. The neck profile doesn't seem to agree with me or my wrist. This is one reason why I got rid of my AVRI. I'm going to give the Squier a fair chance, though.

Spent a lot more time playing than examining the finish, but initially mistook the Jazzy for MIJ. So that says something.

Seemed the same as last year's VM Jag. Thick, probably more so than MIJ, but perhaps not AVRI thick.

I like the JM AVRI neck and the CV 50's Tele neck. Probably my two favorite necks on guitars, ever. I haven't played the old VM Jag. I found the Squier JMJM neck to be a little too chunky for my wrist/hand. Where does the Jag fall along those lines? Thanks so much for being a great source of information.

Sure sounds like a Jaguar to me. I'm very excited about these, think I'm going to go for the Green Jaguar initially. Maybe down the line I'll treat myself to the Red Mustang.

Sounds bang on, be interested to hear it with some different drive settings. I wonder if Squier potted the pups..

They look perfectly alright for what they are, a cheaper guitar. There are a few things as people have pointed out that would have made them look better but I think at the price point it's nitpicking to expect everything you want. Nice videos. I think the Jag looks better than the Jazzmaster.

They're Jaguars. For £250. With a Fender headstock. They're missing a trem lock button, the Fender logo on the headstock and trem plate and that's about it.

I can see past these three "faults".
