is it possible to make a ground lift switch or such like?

reason i ask is. ive been doing a lot of gigs recently (pubs gigs shoved up next to a fireplace and a farting dog, no fancy venues or anything like that) and ive noticed in a lot of places that ive been getting some REALLY nasty noise coming through the amp, pretty loud as well.

ive tried switching guitars (all humbuckers), leads, running DIRECT into the amp and nothing has seemed to work in these instances.

i noticed recently a chap using some aby box and that had a ground lift switch on it and he showed it to me, flicked the switch and BANG there was the noise ive been getting.

so i was wondering if its possible to make one easily enough or if they are purchasable cheaply anywhere? built into a switchable stompbox type casing would be ideal.

i'll be honest my knowledge of these things runs out at the fact that i know their name so go easy on me please.

thanks as always,

I have no idea, but an alternative, and it's going to be a little pricey, is to get a power conditioner to plug your amp and pedals into... they clean up the dirty power by design. They're generally built as extension cables too, which I find are often needed in these small/old pub type venues anyway.

I just watched that Phi-X and Chappers vid a few days ago., Phil_X uses exactly what you want on his board, but for running two amps, ABY box but has ground switch on it. When on pc will find vid and maker of pedal

http://www.tonebone.com/bones-twincity.htm -- 180º polarity sets both amps in phase, or signal

Work on the principle of: If one man can make then surely another can - or at least take it apart and re create it.

Just lifting ground can be pretty dangerous. Might want to look for into isolation transformers or maybe the Ebtech Hum X.
I guess another thing to look into would be a direct box with a ground lift. I have a H&K Red Box that has a ground lift.
