Possibly a stupid question but... amp/speaker connection

Post by NickD »

Just so I don't get it wrong and blow my amp up, I have a Epiphone Valve jr head, with 4, 8 and 16 ohm sockets on the back, and I want to plug it in to a PA speker I have. The PA speaker has 2 jack sockets on the back, and it says it is rated as 8 ohms. I have pulled the jack socket plate out od the speaker and they are attached to a small pcb.

My question is, if I plug my amp into just one of the sockets, using the 8 ohm socket on the amp, is that right? Or do I need to replace the 2 sockets with one to use it?

One socket is fine. The second socket is to allow you to daisy-chain on to another speaker - if you connected the second socket to a second 8 ohm speaker you would use the 4 ohm output on your amp.
