I picked up a Boss FZ-3 today. I've only tried it for a half an hour, but I like it quite a bit so far. I was just wondering if anyone knew if it was based on an older fuzz circuit? Maybe a Maestro or a Tonebender?

Loosely based on the British Tonebender, apparently.

I had one once, I thought it lacked brightness. The FZ2 is much better in my opinion, it's an awesome pedal.

I'd like to try the FZ-2 at some point, too. I had the Behringer clone and I could get a reasonable approximation of the JAMC's Psychocandy fuzz out of it, especially for a €20 pedal. I'm pretty happy with the FZ-3, though. It's not as bright as a Fuzz Face, but I suppose it's got a similar tone. It is the only Boss pedal I've ever used that's sounds good past 12 o'clock on the tone knob.
