String Gauge for Peavy T-15

Post by Mack10k »

Okay, with a little bit of luck I am checking out a Peavy T-15 to start my journey into the world of short scale!!!! Now I'm not good at guitar, I have only been playing for about 7 months. I read online that you might want different string gauges for short scales. For those of you who don't know, Peavy T-15 necks are 23 1/2 scale with 20 frets. The guy who is selling it says he put 10's on it. But before I go out and buy new strings right after I buy it, I was wondering what type of strings I should put on it. And before you ask I am changing them as soon as I get it, I don't like dirty strings from some one else. (Even though the strings are almost new.)

Shorter scale usually means less tension, so if you are used to 10 gauge on a 25.5 Strat style guitar you may consider 11 gauge on a short scale guitar. This is relative to standard tuning of course.
Welcome to the forum and post some pics of the T-15 up

Welcome.

Like Fran said, start with 11's. Although, I bought some heavy bottom ernie ball's (52-10's) once and they were fine. But I would start with 11's and get used the them for a while.
