My used '65 RI arrived yesterday. I'm so glad I pulled the trigger on it.

It's a pretty, pretty guitar.

I haven't really been able to play it tuned yet because one plastic tuning key falls off. I tried a general purpose "Liquid Nails" glue but it didn't hold. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm going to have it set up by a pro and I might have the bridge pickup changed at the same time. I generally play alt rock/hard rock/blues. Any pickup suggestions? I want to be able to return it to 100% stock so I don't want a pickup that will require mods. I've read a lot of recommendations on this board for a JB Jr, FastTrack II, Hot Rails, Little 59, Curtis Novak, etc.

I have the same guitar and the tuners do the same thing. They are shit. I've had multiple situations at important gigs where I go to tune and the peg just turns, as if it had lost all bond with the metal. Stupid design, really. Definitely happens on hot days, too -- like the glue heats up.

Tonight I used superglue. I will try it tomorrow after it dries. What a pain.

I had this same problem with the E-tuner. Then i used superglue and its fine now. It was a crack in the plastic so the whole tuner was unusable.

Superglue worked.

I've fitted the same plastic button tuners to my Mustang too. I've noticed 'trapezoid Fender 70s F tuners' at the usual online parts places, which I'm assuming are the same dimensions but have the standard metal buttons instead since everything else about them looks the same. If the plastic buttons prove to be a PITA, would these be a like-for-like replacement?

Yes. The metal ones should pop right in.

Say what you want about buttons but short of locking tuners, there are no better tuners than good split tuners.

In fact, I find them so stable that I consider them locking, for all purposes.



I can't get this few wraps on any other kind of tuner unless locking, of course.

Yep. I didnt say i want locking tuners.
I just dont like the plastic, want tuners with metal knobs.
Split tuners works well, there are no problem with the tuning itself.
