Mustang Project - Need Help

Hey, I'm kind of new here. I lurk every once in a while, but haven't really posted before. I've been thinking about putting together a Mustang partscaster, but before I start buying parts, I was wondering if there are any compatibility issues between the different years/models and their parts (pickguard, neck, bridge, tuners, etc.) or if they're all pretty much standard and interchangeable. For instance, would a vintage neck fit a Reissue body or vice versa? Or should I try to keep all the parts from the same era? I'll probably be keeping it pretty standard, so it will be a basic Mustang. I'm just not very knowledgeable on Mustangs, so I thought I'd try to get some info before I get started. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the most part, the parts are interchangable. Vintage parts are US though so screws and neck pocket will be slightly different. (Metric vs Inches and such.)

be careful with pickguards. '69RI won't fit '65RI or vintage, and vice versa.

Thanks, guys. HNB, I see you posting on OSG a lot, too. Good to see a familiar face, so to speak.
So, I've been wondering... what are the main differences between the 65RI and the 69RI (other than the obvious)? Is one US made and the other MIJ/CIJ? Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question, but like I said, I don't know much about Mustangs.

Oh, one other thing. What kind of finishes are on these, nitro or poly? Or does it depend on what year it is? I'm not sure if I'll want to refinish it or not, but I thought I'd ask, just in case. I checked the Fender website for the 65RI and it doesn't say what kind of finish it is.
