Anyone Ever Done Something Like This Before?

Saw this video and relized "Shit that SG melody maker is cool", i want to get a real one. Kinda like this
Then i relized i dont have $900+ to spend on one and my friend is willing to sell me his Epi SG special for like a project for like $30 or $40 and i could paint it any color i want cus the finish is completely off. So i think im gonna jump on that project once i finish my other 2. im seeing a few problems though in the way i wanna have it electronicallty. I want a single coil in the neck (Hot Gold Lace Sensor) so i can get vintagy tones and single coily tones, and a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail in the bridge to have multiple sounds, and maybe like a coil tap so i can split that to. i will definitly be using a 3 way switch since thats what it has routed for, but im not sure as to use a 250k pot or a 500k pot, and then for the tone pot i would like to use a TBX tone control but if i would still like to try to get the coil tap feature if possible.
Ideas Suggestions, aor anything would be much helpful.
