I have read that The early JV Fender Paisely Red Telecasters were available with either Rosewood or maple boards but I have only seen 2 of them with rosewood.

i think shad was just saying it's the easiest way to achieve this look.
i do love a good rosewood tele neck without the headstock truss rod access. mmmm
