The 7 Strings of Wisdom

I think the time has come for me to re-string my 7-string as, quite frankly, it sounds gash. It was very cheap and I'm sure the pickups could be improved but the strings seem like the cheapest and easiest place to start. As I've never done this before, I wondered if anyone can recommend makes, sellers or gauges? I normally used Fender Bullets on my 6 strings but I see they don't make them for the extra string.

Thanks

Would this be along the lines of what you're looking for? You can find these online

Also La Bella make 7 string sets, as well as GHS. I'd just go for whatever is cheapest.

The Ernie ball 7 string sets were working well for me.

I usually buy a 6 string set and then my shop sells individual strings, so I could pick and choose what gauge I wanted for the 7th string.

Kinda along the lines of what Joey said: Regular set, heavier 7th string than most offer for flexibility.

I've written here a few times about the 24.75" scale of my Epiphone Les Paul 7 being not so optimal for a non-flabby detuning to A, but it's passable when strung up with a fat .70 and not strumming too hard. The GHS Zakk Wylde 11-70s seem to fit the bill the best.

I'm in A-standard on a 25.5 scale six-string. I used the "light" D'Addario 8-string set, using the bottom three strings (starting with a 65 or 66 or something) then went up to 24w to 11 for the top three strings. Works fine.
