I have a tap tempo footswitch, I forget who made it for me, but the switch clicks when it is depressed and this restricts how quickly I can set the tempo. Is it possible to get a switch that doesn't click when depressed?

why would someone use a latching switch for tap tempo?
you just need to replace the switch with a momentary one.

I think a lot of momentary footswitches DO click a bit, the one I used for my homebrew momentary fx bypass loop thang did.

how many times do you have to press to set the tempo, 2 or 4? i mean do you need to press/depress and again press/depress?

I'm not sure how many times exactly but it must be at least twice. The problem is that the resistance created by the switch latching/clicking into place stops you from switching it quickly, so it doesn't really matter how many times you need to click it as it's the switch itself stopping you.

That's why you need a proper momentary swiitch - no click

swap out the switch for a big arcade button, I've seen it done a few times by people who want faster responses from tap tempos
