Carvin Cabs

Just got offered a Carvin 2x12 open back with a pair of Celestion Seventy 80's for $125 from a buddy on the local facebook guitar buy/sell/trade group. The seller's moving to the states, so he's selling his heavy gear.

I'm assuming it's a good deal. The speakers alone go for more than that. We're gonna meet up tomorrow for me to check out the cab.

Anyway, my question: those that have dealt with Carvin cabs/amps in the past- how well built/sturdy are they? I'm hoping it's ply or solid wood, since MDF doesn't really survive long in this climate.

Thanks

These Carvin G212s are constructed from poplar ply, they make a special point of mentioning that it's not particle board [MDF] in the product description... so if it's like these I'd say dew, probably on par with a Fender cabinet/combo (which are birch ply) durability wise and already has nice speakers in it: win/win unless you prefer the closed-back sound (I do for celestions but if you're getting them at a steal it's worth trying them in the cab).

I've heard generally good things about Carvin. I have a seventy-eighty in my Rivera and that sounds pretty fine.
