Seller says it is all original. Do you all recommend I open it up when it arrives to check it out? I hear Musicmasters are routed for two pickups stock. Seems interesting. Here are pics from the seller. Once it arrives, I will do my usual flurry of pictures.

That's just how my 78 looked when I first got it...

How did you like it? Having just a neck pickup seems odd to me, but I will stay open to it. Normally I go for the bridge pickup to get my jangle on. I am excited to hear this through my Twin.

When I got it it wasn't complete, and the electronics were dead. So I put a high output bridge pickup in the neck position
Anyway, it's got the most playable neck of any guitar I've ever played in my life. It's the only guitar that I like to play lead with.

I heard these have great necks. It was cool to get one cheaper than my Mexican Toronado.

I built a parts guitar that had a 1978 Musicmaster body and '72 neck.
I really liked the guitar except for the super chunky neck. If you miss the Bridge pickup, then you can justify picking up a Fender Bronco guitar to go with it.

Aftermarket. Can't stand Strat knobs, even on Strats.

I had Bronco knobs with the arrows on my Musicmaster. Sadly, I am now out of Bronco knobs, though I have plenty of Randall amp knobs that are identical to Bronco knobs except for the R on top. My Bronco has the Bronco knobs with the numbers like you see on the Starcaster.
Late 70's they went to the Strat knobs.

Cool. At first I wasn't sure if they came with strat knobs stock until I looked up more pictures. Do you think I should bother taking the guard off to check under the hood to confirm it is all original? The serial checks out fine for 1976. It would just be checking pots and pickup. (and maybe serial sticker under the guard.) I don't see anything that looks off with it.

It looks mint, like it's live most of its life in a case under someone's bed.

Maybe the neck code as well?

Nope. These knobs are from the early Broncos and showed up on the vintage Starcasters
