Another guitar lead failed on me at the weekend.

Please recommend me a decent (i.e. one that won't break for no reason) cable.

3 metres, black, with an angled jack. And not for daft money either.

Thread is relevant to my interests.

I tend to gravitate toward any cable that has a nice rigid tweed covering and those big chunky plugs Warwick uses on their Rockcable series (preferably right-angled). Mostly because it's what I'm used to, and because I see cables as consumables, like strings, I don't like to spend that much money on them. I'll try and spend about £10 at the most for a single cable.

I have had the same 2 Planet Waves cables with 1 right angled jack for about 4 years with no problems at all. They also have a lifetime guarantee, I think. Whirlwind cables have also been very reliable, i've had one for 10 years with no issue.

Planet Waves custom series. They're like £15 and work brilliantly. If they do break you can send them off and get a new one. I've also had good luck with the classic series, although they break after serious use - but again lifetime warranty means they'll replace them for freeeee.

Another vote for Planet Waves. I've had mine for over five years and they've not broken yet.

The best one I have is a cordial one with right angled neutric silent jacks. There is also a great seller on eBay that makes cables to order with great components. I need to look up the link though

Dimarzio has been my longest living cable of about 15 years old, followed by Fulltone and Planet Waves... all without issues.

Fuck Planet Waves, expensive and the moulded jack means you can't fix them when they inevitably break.

Get a soldering iron and a half decent cable with unscrewable jacks and sort yourself out for YEARS. I've been using the same cables for about 7 years, no lie.

I used to think this, I always used to repair my own cables. But to be honest I'd much rather have a new cable replace my old one, which is why I use Planet Waves, purely for the lifetime warranty - so far to that I deliberately tried to find the cheapest cable that had a lifetime guarantee. Since moving to Planet Waves I haven't had to buy a new cable in 2-3 years, and when one cable did crap out on me I got a new one for free.

I've had planet waves cheap stuff. They were great when i wasn't playing life, they lasted years. But when i started caring them around and gigging at least once a month they started to get fucked up, all of them! I didn't know about the warranty, but who has a receipt from a 3 year old cable anyway...
I fixed them with some cheap plugs i had, but i'm building my own from now on. It's four solder joints per cable...

Really? That was never an issue for me, I just bundled them into a jiffy bag with the cardboard sleeve they come with when you buy them (I always intend to claim the player points but I never have). I just pop an email over to the customer service before I do so and they give me the address. A week or so later the new cable turns up.

Yeah, just the cable and a return address for me. Worked every time. But I got sick of not having a cable. And then I lost it.

Anything with serviceable ends works for me. Bought a 20 footer from Musicians Friend last year for about 15 bucks, no problemo.

Have had no-name cables for 15 years that haven't broken. They used to have the name and phone number of my guitar shop on them, long worn-off (or the plastic sleeving has stripped off in one case). I only realized recently that 2 of them I still use I got with my first ever guitar.

The ones that have broken have all been ones with unscrewable jacks and I've fixed 'em. It's the best course of action.

I have owned Monster Cables (also the unscrewable jack kind) for a decade that haven't broken as well, though they are expensive.

yes.

i really like cloth wrapped cables. I have a few of those i have had a very very long time. also wrap your cables neatly, get some ties or some shit.

this was the one I mentioned but he seems to not be selling anymore
