Rocksmith....what do we think?
OK, just bought this for the Xbox 360, the idea was too tantalising to resist. Apart from making me feel like a rubbish guitar player with a very sloppy technique I think it has some real value as a practice tool. Quite a nice selection of tracks to play along with and rewards of new FX and Amps when you do well seems like a nice idea.
It seems quite intuitive too. The better you play, the more detail to the song it throws at you and expects you to be able to play next time round.
Basically, it's a fun way to practice, and I can see it tightening up some of my shoddy fingering (ooh er missus).

Don't look at me I'm irrelevant!
I haven't tried it, but I've been pretty tempted... and now I'm tempted more

I own Rocksmith!
I have to say, when I picked up the game I was quite impressed... I used to be too scared to even pick up a guitar and play a sound, but after Rocksmith I was able to actually play a few little riffs on my own : )
For a beginner it really is a great tool; it gets you accustomed to tuning your guitar, to chords, etc. While for advanced players it's just a fun game. Latlat played it a lot!
The biggest issue we had with the game is with the sound... we encountered problems in the beginning with sound lag, so we had to purchase a xbox360 sound thing to plug through speakers (instead of using hdmi). Now the chord that does guitar/xbox is pretty much fucked and it sounds like a dying cat... but I still say the game is worth it : )

I think you can buy replacement cables without having to buy another copy of the game.Apricat wrote:I own Rocksmith!!

Waiting for the price to come down a little before i get it. Although have been waiting ages for it to come out.
Do the standard 1/4" to USB guitar leads, like you get on ebay for £10 work with the game? Or is there something speshul in the one included by Ubisoft.
anyd yeah you can buy the "real tone" cables, but they cost a load of money.

Rocksmith? Haven't really listened to their stuff, but I wish them well in their struggle against Ubisoft.

After talking to my gamer-nerd friend I'm now thoroughly convinced it's more aimed at kids who level up in "Oblique Radioactive IRL 2044" type games all day long and are too lazy to learn an instrument. A buddy who's resisted real-life, practical lessons a billion times over is pestering me for a "good" guitar (going on to stress it had better not be a homemade/crappy one) despite not knowing a note on guitar, with this game in mind.Doog wrote:I hate the idea that playing guitar isn't fun already; that seems to be their marketing campaign.
FINALLY, MAKE THE CHORE FUN, KIDS!
Get to level 11 of Slothquest IV in five minutes while eating salty snacks and texting friends = learn guitar via similar methods no problem, provided beginner's equipment doesn't hold you back?
Here's the guitar I've prepared for him btw, if he comes round here asking bear in mind I've pitched it as a Thurston Rondondolo sig with sustain-enhancing aftermarket headstock accessory and NOT a rattle-canned Rustoleum junker with a capo holding the strings in the nut, c'mon guys be cool.

WOw! That's h0t!! And it's got a WRHB in the neck, I hear they're really good!!!1! D'ya want to swap it for this beat-up piece-of-junk single-pickup student guitar thing? I don't know what it is, it just says "Fender" and it looks like somebody modified it to make it butt-ugly:paul_ wrote:Here's the guitar I've prepared for him btw, if he comes round here asking bear in mind I've pitched it as a Thurston Rondondolo sig with sustain-enhancing aftermarket headstock accessory and NOT a rattle-canned Rustoleum junker with a capo holding the strings in the nut, c'mon guys be cool.

This might be true for some but the game definitely was very useful for me. I couldn't afford classes (the game was bought with a xmas gift certificate), nor did I want to take classes. I did years of classical piano and violin classes as a kid/teenager, and I really couldn't see myself put in X amount of time every night doing "gammes".
After a few days of playing Rocksmith I was already able to pick up a guitar and just play around with it. Before, I was too scared to even strum because of the awful sounds that would come out of the instrument when I did, but with Rocksmith there's music in the background so even when I sucked super bad I had to continue... It definitely gave me the confidence to not give up : )

actually as my local library has xbox360 (and every other current gen console) games.. I should investigate if they have this one..
as they have the whole line of Ubisoft 4 button guitar games...
if i dig it, might be worth buying.
One of my students has the game. Since I had never heard of it, his parents wanted to know what I thought of it so I stayed late after one of his lessons to check it out. It was pretty cool and it had a good selection of songs that I actually like. I liked that it actually creates realistic expectations of what playing guitar is actually like as opposed to guitar hero and rock band. When I first started teaching guitar lessons it was right after guitar hero and rock band came out and every kid I taught thought it was going to be super easy just like pressing buttons on guitar hero.

It came and went on the tail end of rhythm game craze, and was originally supposed to be a free PC game until Ubisoft bought it. Ubisoft made the tracklist more awesum tho. My friend grabbed a copy to try coop, but no stores around here carry the standalone rocksmith xbox/guitar cable.robroe wrote:I play guitar

BTW, you can also use this cable with your PC, apparently, as a USB audio input device.
More I see about it the more I think you could just do with one of these cables:
TeH EBAYSZ
and like Nick says the bundled cable with the game can be picked up by a PC for recording into a DAW etc. Not tested this theory though, I haven't bought the game yet.
