T'is although we have to push that night quite hard as we have to take £250 per hour at the bar or we lose our deposit..... should be okay, there are 20 people in the bands alone, so 20 + min of 50 through the door buying 1 drink an hour at average cost of £3.50 = £245

That's not the Hackney I remember, fuck me.

Gigging in London is serious BUSINESS these days.

Yeah, its not normally that bad. We are putting this gig on ourselves as we wanted to play locally so it will be more of a party atmosphere than the usualy gig. All the bands are friends & most people that turn up will have a connection.

The room itself is not open unless you want to put some sort of a night on so the venue has to supply staff, PA plus other amenities. Whilst I accept they need to make money to keep the place running it does seem a bit steep, although it does ensure anyone hiring makes an effort to promote & get people through the door. I know plenty of bands who do bugger promo then moan nobody comes to see them. To be honest i think the £250 an hour is just to motivate you to make the effort, I'm sure if we had a decent night & they did well out of it there wouldn't be too much quibble if we were a few quid short.

Played the Urban bar (Once mooted venue for shortscale gig pt 2) a couple of weeks ago for a mates birthday, there was no deposit but we had to take £400 at the bar. Managed to reach that by 8.30 before a note was played.

Are you getting money coming the other way if you send £250 per hour across the bar?

Nope, it not really a gig venue. We have hired the space ourselves, it's just a function room really. We are expecting a good turnout so not worried about being out of pocket.

Fair enough, it should be a great night - it'll probably bring people out who wouldn't go to your standard pub gig.
