I've had these both for a few weeks now but have been waiting on pickguards and shit. Got each one for the equivalent of £240 delivered from Thomann.



I've set up both with: shimmed necks, low stock bridges with high saddles, 11-49 strings, slight truss rod tweaks, adjusted pickup heights, intonation.

The red tort Jazz guard is from the Dutch guy on eBay; I had to file the holes for the bridge posts a bit but obviously this is hidden under the bridge. Had to get a rhythm circuit pot bracket; the Allparts one had holes that were too small so I got a friend to drill them 1mm bigger - very annoying.

The parchment Jag guard is from eyguitarmusic.com, it didn't fit without a lot of filing; it doesn't look great around the lead circuit control plate. I'll probably get one custom cut in the future.

Got the bridge cover for the Jag as I thought it would go well with all the chrome; it looks really good on the Jazz too so I'll buy another one at some stage.

Next string change I'll probably go up to 11-52 for the Jazz and 12s for the Jag.

Overall very pleased indeed!

Definitely prefer the comfort of the shortscale Jag, but it's not as if the Jazz is uncomfortable.

In terms of the soundz... I love both; they're both awesome.

That combo on the Jazzmaster looks great. If that was my Jaguar I'd have left the tort on it.

Does the bridge cover make the bridge rattle any less? My one problem with my VM Jag is that the bridge rattles a lot. On a couple of occasions it's vibrated to such an extent that one of the screws has shaken itself out of its hole.

yeah.. i've found that common, even with the B5 Bigsby Tele bridges. I think that the slop in the screws and the threads is just too much. I've replaced them and that helps. But sometimes it' easier to do the white glue/nail polish/loctite trick. it secures them and no more buzzing at all.

They both look awesome and better than the stock versions. The tort that comes stock on the white jag looks terrible in person!

No, I don't think the cover affects the extent of any rattling

Thanks! Yeah, I wasn't a fan of the very dark/brown tort that came with the Jag. I thought I'd go for a kind of Johnny Marr vibe with it.

Get some bondloc on those grub screw threads and your problems will disappear. 10 min job. You could also apply a little to the height adjusting screws if they were an issue too.

Make sure there is suitable clearance over the bridge by adjusting the saddles and height of the bridge itself to where it has most clearance. Nudging the bridge forward may help too. Finally I always drop a tiny blob of blu tack in between the saddles.

I did this to customers VM shortscale and it works.

on the saddles? put a drop of clear nail varnish in the holes, it'll hold it for a good few months.
