I bought new guitar.

It has some of the shittiest out-of-the-box action I've seen in recent years and pretty obvious fret sprout, dat good old American quality control, but nothing I can't fix. The rest of the guitar is sexy as hell, though. I love the color, the "worn" finish is silly but tasteful, and it is like lighter than Strat light, it feels no more than 7 pounds. This chambering is awesome!

It's 1960s Tribute LP Studio model, it gets so many things right, IMO.

The neck is slim 60s, my favorite.
Chambered mahogany maple with maple cap. Very very light.
I like the way Special looks, but I definitely prefer this archtop.
Real Gibson P90s! If I don't like the pickups, they'll do fine in resale.
That color! Gibson doesn't do enough white guitars, and it's a shame, white looks great on an LP.
The finish is satin, so while it's not the best to look at, it feels played, in a good way. Neck is FAST!
Fretboard is rosewood, not baked maple. I like baked maple and all, just not the way Gibson uses it.
Some of the hardware feels a LITTLE cheap, but honestly, it's a Gibson for the price of a high end MIM Fender, I'm not complaining. Any problems can be easily fixed with upgrades and it'll still be half the price of a Standard.

I don't see any show stopping problems with my guitar, certainly nothing I can't fix myself. The actual body and neck are fantastic, and the electronics should be up to par. It's really the last 10% of detail and the cosmetics where it suffers in comparison with the most expensive of guitars, but you also pay 1/3 of the price of a Standard, so I think it's fair.

Finish is super thin, too, which is cool. It really does feel quite porous, in a good way.

The white and cream look great together, man! Hope the classic Gibson QC gets outweighed by the tone and light body.

In other news, Choa from quasi-fake K-Pop girl group/band AOA just got a hold of one this month as well, though on her tiny frame it almost looks as big as a White Falcon. The movie references are silly/creepy, but your LP Studio affinity is established!

I just took the time to get the truss rod and action good, and I have to say, it's already winning favors from me. The only minor thing is it feels like the high E seems closer to the edge of the neck than I'm used to, but that might just be me imagining things since visually, I notice no problems there. The nut is very well cut, the only real problem now is the fret ends and the fretboard could be rolled off a little. It's something I don't like to do on guitars since I don't trust me with a file near a neck (I've done it before and it wasn't good) but I figure it's $40 of any pro's time.

Haven't had a chance to plug in but the unplugged sound is loud, clear, and lovely.

Looks great. Love Les Pauls, love Gibson P90s, never had a Gibson Les Paul with P90s... some day. I'm a fan of the 50s/60s/70s tribute guitars, those 70s SGs with minihums and mini block inlays are the only ones I've actually gotten to play so far though.

Re: the strings being close to the edge of the fretboard: I find they come closer to the edges on Gibsons than they do Epis or most Gibson-style imports, I think they have wider individual spacing too (though this has changed by a smidgen a few times over the years). Both my AV '57 Strat and Gibson LP Standard's string spread seem wider if I go awhile only playing my import Fenders/Epis beforehand, it's definitely more noticeable with the Gibson.

The white/cream combo is not for me personally (and as a side note, Gibson's creme is too dark/pinky now... the Historic plastics used to be brighter like back in the day but now they're the same colour as the standard stuff for the last few years) but I love white w/chrome LPs regardless so I'd probably dress it up in black plastics like my Epi Custom. I appreciate the creme on white looks a bit more unique though. Still jealous.

I eyed that Epiphone several times and once even ordered it, just to send it back.

I think it's a tremendous looker and probably plays great, too. Love white LPs.

So I brought the guitar home and plugged it in, and two minutes later I took the bridge pickup out and rewired it for RWRP. The process is pretty easy with P90s, flip the two magnets, and then flip the wires at the pickup. The hum is pretty obvious with this one, but in the middle position, it is silent now, so I have that to fall back on. And the sound is simply great! The neck pickup is nice and warm, the bridge pickup sounds like rawk, but the middle position is noiseless and full of clean and bright jangle. Love it.

I think one day I'll probably put Kinmans in it because it sounds like 20% of my tone is hum from the P90s, and that mucks with me quite a lot (I use noiseless pickups or humbuckers in every guitar). I love the sound in the middle position, but I could also use a slightly underwound neck and a slightly overwound bridge so I will probably need a custom wound anyway.

my friend Mike, just got this black one in the mail from Zzounds.com this morning. he is sending it back monday. he said that if he puts hardly any pressure on the high E string it comes off the fretboard.

Shame, that LP is a looker.

So these are all of my electric guitars that aren't Hello Kitties. They're all super light with skinny ass necks. I am so happy with my collection of guitars. I've bought and sold a lot of guitars, but I can see myself keeping these for a long time. Plus, they all have way more value to me than to anyone else, so they will suck in resale anyway.

1. Mustang '73 RI (6 lb 10 oz) - My default guitar and my favorite (otherwise, I wouldn't be here). Has a Mastery.
2. Squier VM Tele Thinline (7 lb 8 oz) - This has a Gibson scale neck (my favorite), but still the familiar 7.25" Fender radius.
3. Daisy Rock Retro-H Deluxe (6 lb 8 oz) - Bigsby is awesome, but the slim neck (Gibson scale) is the best thing about this guitar.
4. Les Paul (6 lb 9 oz) - Yep, it's lighter than my Mustang.

I got rid of it because I liked and appreciated to more than I loved it. It was never a first choice for anything. The chunkier neck, the JB, the bridge, heavier body, it probably all factored in.
