NGD - Lâg T66D Acoustic

Post by mkt3000 »

I mentioned a while back that I've been pining for a cheap acoustic to play around with and bring to the beach.

Anyway, a few weeks back, I saw an acoustic that stuck out to me on music123's used section on ebay. The Lâg T66D. It wasn't a company I'd heard of, so I did a bit of research. Small french company that's known mostly for metal/hard rock guitars. However, the youtube demo I found was promising. But since I hadn't felt it in my hands, I didn't want to risk it.

Fast forward to this past Saturday. I swung by the a local music store to share my Jag-stang with my friend who works there and is a shortscale/offset fanatic, and to buy a hollowbody gigbag for my Riviera. And what do I see hanging on the wall for $229? A brand new Lag T66D. I tested it out, and I fell in love with it. The neck was instantly comfortable, the action was low, and the tone was very clear with a beautiful high end.

So I did what any reasonable person would do - I bought it. Not from the music store though - they only honor RRP for Gibson/Epi - I bought the same one I had seen on Music123's ebay site for less than that and got free Priority shipping. She should be here monday (possibly tomorrow, but I'm going out of town tonight).

The only issues it had on the listing is a bit of box rash on the back, which isn't a bother to me.

In the meantime, I've ordered some Tusq saddle pins to replace the plastic ones it comes with, and a new set of extra light strings, since I prefer them on acoustics.

So, anyway, pics from the listing:

LAG guitars are great fun, I have a friend that uses one of their little parlour models. It sounds quite nice for an acoustic at such a low price point.

Nice buy!

Well, she's here, and she looks like new. I'm a bit unhappy with Music123's lack of any padding (as well as their tendency to ship guitars fully tuned), but she's here. Oh, and the box arrived wide open.

Anyway, there's a nasty buzz on the second fret on the B and E strings. I detuned the guitar, and I'm going to give her a few days to adjust to the climate down here. On Saturday I'll take her to my tech, and based on his recommendation, I might return the guitar.

I'm not really happy right now.

I'm happy now. She needed several turns of the truss rod to straighten out the neck, but the buzz is gone. Tomorrow my tech's gonna take her in (as well as a few other projects I haven't yet finished), and hopefully she'll be good to go in a few days.

I had a Duncan Performer Maverick lying around, screwed it into place, and took some pics of the guitar. The coloration of the rosewood fretboard is truly beautiful - pictures do not do it justice.
