I nearly bought one years ago but bought an Epiphone SG instead. Kicked myself constantly the entire time I owned that Epiphone. Eventually I picked up a samick super strat for like £30 because it needed a new floyd. I completely gutted and gave some crazy frankenstien wiring that involved coil splits, phase inverting, series parallel. That was a fun guitar too.

No worries, there are always loads of Ibanez RGs on ebay for not that much money so if you miss out on this one you'll be sure to find another.

Yeah, I always sort of wish that I wanted a shred guitar, or that I was the sort of person who would appreciate having more than one lying around because they've been crazy value for the last five years or so.

I've always sort of wanted an RG550.

There's always loads of Aria Pro stuff around here for cheap. I'd say go walking around second hand shops, pawn shops etc. with £150 - £200 in your pocket and keep an eye out for quality, just. Keep an open mind about what you're going to end up with, make sure it's a good guitar, and then how badly can it go for that sort of money? It's still "cheap" guitar money, and you're likely to end up with something that cost considerably more than "cheap" in its day.

Thats a really good point, every time I walk past my local cash converters there is always at least one ibanez and a bc rich hanging up in the window. There was a really cool old Tokai that sold within a day or two. The best thing is when they're sold as broken as they're missing a string, that can lead to a bargain!

I'm tempted to pick up a super cheap strat copy at some point to muck about with.

If you can find one with the floyd-a-like with all the bits then you're laughing, you'll be paying anything from £99-£160 for a proper Japanese Matsumoku guitar. They're sort of halfway between a strat and a proper "superstrat" sort of thing, so if you really want the Ibanez look then it's not for you. But it'll do the business.

I'm kind of set on one of those Ibanez models for some reason.

I mean, I'm sure the others are great but guitars like Gabriel linked have the most up to date wanker hardware, and shred axes are a kind of niche where iterative developmental changes mean something.

And they get good reviews plus the shred tone.

Fair enough. I've been looking for a cheap bass and remembered how hilariously low the prices of Westones are on eBay and thought I might kick the idea out there.
