Would be nice to play this at 200% speed, but they've done a Mascis rig rundown:

Yes! Thanks, been waiting for a while. J is hilariously awkward.

How many times did I hear the following:
Interviewer - "I bet you don't use that then"
JM - "Yes I do"
loved it, thanks Tim. I liked the way he played through the pedals and showed them all and also talked about the differences between recording and live.

One of the most awkward conversations I have ever listened to. Very interesting though!

Interesting to see Boss pedal and the Custom Audio Japan pedal on the board, i'm sure I read something recently where he advised never to use Japanese pedals.

i think if you read the whole interview, him and kevin shields were on a huge wind up. similar to this interview/rig rundown in the way he deals with some of the questions

Wasn't too bad for a Mascis interview. He is Mr. Energy.

Thanks for that! Don't know how I managed to miss it until now. Still have no idea how he manages to play with that action... it's beyond high.

A couple interesting things that I got out of it:
He plays Jazzmasters live, but doesn't normally record with them. (Tele for lead and P90 Gibby for rhythm.)
His triple amp set up is set up like that to feel the air pressure from playing. (Uses smaller amps to record.)
His high guitar action on his Jazzys is mainly for doing solos and slide. For studio, his rhythm guitars have lower action.
I really liked that BASICALLY for his sound he uses one pedal for rhythm and one pedal for clean. I also liked that all his amps are always on. (They all also seemed to just have everything up to ten.)

I think he said all his amps were up half way because after that they start to distort rather than increase in volume.
It is a basic approach on the whole but it makes sense. Well, maybe not the three amps on simultaneously at the same volume then use pedals to boost or decrease volume.. but its J Mascis and he was originally a drummer after all.
I've watched quite a lot of these over the years but this one is like the bumper one with everything in it. Its a shame there wasn't one done before the guitars got stolen.
The interview were he tells of a sound engineer throwing a bottle at his head for being too loud had me crying with laughter.

Just about to watch this...going to drink whiskey to numb the pain. pressed play: INSTANT DISAPPOINTMENT: WHERFORART DIRKS? I want to see J being socially awkward to a bubbly girl! Or is he faux-socially awkward (i.e an asshole)?? I never know.

Did anyone else notice how totally flat and not-intonated that first Jazzy is?
Also every time J gives a monosylabic answer Dirks would reveal a breast making computer noises and steam come out of J's ears.

Probably his dumbass high action; physics would dictate his guitar would never truly be in tune because of the varying pressure he's applying over the neck to fret.
